My tricity bendix electric cooker/oven trips all electrics
I have lived in my hosuing associaition rented flat for nearly 4 years and in that time this has never happened before until last weekend when i was cooking dinner, the oven had been on for 15 mins when suddenly everything electric in the whole flat switched off, including bedroom t.v's, lights, telephone, cooker, everything! we then dicovered its when we press the red oven 'on' switch on the kitchen wall is when this happens. its now been happening everytime we switch the oven on but it doesnt trip straight away, the oven will work for the first 3mins-15 ins then everything will suddenly trip.
i rang my housing associaition for them to send out an electrician but they said they dont usually do that for cookers as its not their problem as its my oven, they will only come out if theres a problem with the electrics in the flat and if they do send one out and find out its due to a problem with my cooker then i will hve to pay £100 call out fee.
my bf's dad came round and cant see a problem with the cooker bu said it could be an element gone.
im puzzled as i bought the oven brand new 3 years ago from comet, its a tricity bendix se211x electric cooker with built in grill and the 4 rings on the top, and its only used once or twice a week.
shall i keep the appointment with the electrician for tomorrow (if its the electrics, not my oven thats the problem) or shall i buy a new oven?
Re: my tricity bendix electric cooker/oven trips all...
H iyou can get the electrics cheched that will rule that out but it sounds like a short on the oven it could well be the element in the oven which you should be able to replace as its only 3 years old

This tutorial will show you how to check your Zanussi element and how to replace your Zanussi cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating
Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Zanussi manual.
If you're Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

Hello,
Is the fan working in the oven if not then check if the clock needs resetting. If the fan is working then it is more likely that the ring element around the fan has failed.Check also if the thermostat light comes on,this is an indication it may be ok.
These will give you the basics 1How
to change a fan oven element and How to change a cooker oven fan Motor 2How
to fit a New Thermostat to a Cooker or Oven
If you
have a electric Cooker or Fan
Oven which is not heating it could be one of the following problems. 3. If you have the opposite problem i.e. your oven
is over heating and burning everything then you will need to replace your oventhermostat
This is most likely an electrical fault in the oven (or switch). As it is potentially dangerous - have it tested before using again.
The RCD trips out because an earth fault has occurred If it did not, the entire cooker may have become live- so it saved your life really.
It may not be as serious as this - when heating elements fail, they can short to ground -(the outside case of the element)
If this is the case - only one element will be at fault.
Test by switching on one element at a time - untill it trips again. In this case - replace that element.
I have had a similar problem in that the top oven was overheating getting hotter and hotter and have just got a replacement thermostat from Partmaster.co.uk. This is to fit a Tricity Bendix from Currys model number DSIE520 GR. The new one seems just like yours in that it has three lettered connectors A,B and C. With the part came a sheet stating that for a free standing appliance with NO timer (this what my cooker is) the connections to be made are : 2 on old part to A on new; F on old to B on new; G/H on old to C on new and the link from G/H and 6 on old to be removed or "severed". I haven't yet done this as its in my cottage which I'm going to this weekend. Good luck! James
The symptoms you describe are a classic example of an oven element heating up, and as it gets hotter, the insulation is breaking down, thereby causing the earth leakage trip to operate.
To confirm this , switch on the oven, and turn all 4 rings on the top to full heat, 2 at a time, let them stay on for at least 10-15 mins, and if it does not trip, then you can be pretty sure it is the oven element(s) that is the problem
It is not likely to be the wall switch, as if it were faulty, i would expect the trip to go right away.
If you want to check further, then turn on the oven again and see if it trips, if it does ,then it is definately the oven element(s) that is the problem.
If it is a fan assisted oven , the element is at the rear of the oven, and possibly one under the base ot the oven. If it is a conventional convection oven, then there is an element at each side of the oven, even if one is faulty, replace both.
You will to check the fan oven element, it has probably failed.
Disconnect and try , if no fuse blow, then replace element.
Plz rate this solution.
Thanks.
