Message is "operating system error" AFTER i tried di\oing setup config... what value is assigned to each category?
OPERATING SYSTEM. That would be Windows.
You are in BIOS Setup, and shouldn't be in there.
Computer OFF. (Press the Power On button, and hold it for 10 seconds until the computer turns off; if it is on)
Press the Power On button, and hold it in. Hold for a count of 10 seconds. let go. Do this same procedure 2 more times.
If the Power On LED light blinks, when you press the Power On button for the third time; hold for ten seconds, let go; do it again.
Keep pressing until the Power On LED light doesn't blink on.
This resets CMOS Error Codes, and resets BIOS Setup back to the factory default settings.
Operating system error is solved by installing the Restoration Disk/s, and when asked choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)
If this doesn't solve the problem, you have a bad harddrive data cable, or a bad harddrive.

SOURCE: Plug & Play Configuration Error
this may not be your ethernet card that is causing the fault, it is probably a flat cmos battery (CR2032) disc shaped battery normally close to the memory slots. This will need to be replaced, it's a simple job, just remove side panel of tower and flip the battery out and replace, probably cost $3.00. You will then be prompted on the next boot up to press f2 to set the date and time and then save and exit again for a reboot
SOURCE: strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility
Got to BIOS by pressing F2,check or any floppy setting and disable it even in boot order setup. This will solve your problem otherwise replace the lithium CMOS battery.
As you have reset the BIOS setting to it's default setting.Floppy drive is enable by default whether your system have a physical floppy drive or not.

You have a rootkit virus, the only answer is reformat the drive and start fresh, sorry.
After a fresh install is done immediately install service(can be downloaded free from microsoft.com) pack 3, because sp2 is vulnerable to a host of trouble.
SOURCE: my dell optiplex gx150 wont boot. i am getting
Sounds like the boot sec is missing run restore disks
Message Meanings : Previous POST did not complete successfully. POST loads default values and offers to run Setup. If the failure was caused by incorrect values and they are not corrected, the next boot will likely fail. On system with control of wait states, improper Setup settings can also terminate POST and cause this error on the next boot. Run Setup and verify that wait-state configuration is correct. This error is cleared the next time the system is booted.
What does the above mean ??? If the BIOS does not see a particular device loading ( like Hard Drive ) Try bringing up the Bios setting F-2 and reset to default. Hope this helps
