TV will not turn on

Was watching my TV a few days ago. There was a loud pop, the screen went blank, and the TV powered down. I first thought it was the bulb, which has never been replaced, but now I am not so sure. Symptoms: when I power on the TV, the ON button flashes green. After a few seconds, there is a very fast metallic clicking sound for about 5 seconds, which repeats after another few seconds. The cycle repeats itself about 20 seconds later. The green light keeps blinking but I never get sound or picture. Any ideas? Bulb? Ballast?

Hi, It could well be the power supply that is in the back of your set. Have a repairman check it out. It's not a do it yourself thing. Good luck.

SOURCE: TV clicked and went blank...no picture, no sound.

Most problems with TV not turning ON is a power supply related problem. The relay click are a normal process that powers up the circuit boards. Right now the TV is most likely in " Protection Mode ". The TV detected a bad circuit board and it will prevent the TV from fully turning ON. This keeps the other circuit board from being damaged. The power light blinking is a code.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet. This will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, blinking light codes, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

Samsung plasma screen went black. Was watching tv, heard a loud pop and the screen will no longer turn on. You can hear the tv turn on but no picture. Power is still working, just a blank screen.

Issue is either with the X or Y sustain board. Look for a cap that has blown or a cracked solid state device on the board. One of them is responsible for the ***** croak you heard.

Unfortunately, that board is the inverter board. And for this model the inverter board is only supplied with the the PDP panel. The panel is quite expensive, here's a link if needed:

Pioneer SD-582HD5 - screen went black, no sound, Poor remote feed

The blue tube might be leaking coolant in the high voltage area, that is the cause of the POP. This repair might not be a DIY because of the lethal high voltage surrounding the CRTs tubes.
The slow response from the remote could be because the coolant has affected the main board where the IR signal are going to the remote sensor.
Let me know if you require further assistance.
