Coleman Powermate Powerbase 5000 PM0545305 has no ac power. Receptacles have been replaced and I have noticed there are hammer marks on the housing of the stater. Is this most likely unfixable? Any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: engine runs but no power aat outlet????

Start with brushes and rings. Make sure your rings are clean and the your brushes have a good length. Flash the fields with 12V battery. Apply positive to the brush nearest the bearing and negative to the back brush, while genset is running. Use rubber gloves when doing this and keep hands away from rotating parts. You should see the voltage climb when you flash the fields. This would mean that you need a voltage regulator. If voltage does not climb, then you will need a new genset.

SOURCE: have a coleman powermate 5000. Won't start. Laid

Cleaning the carb bowl is not enough make sure you pull out the main jet and clean it out real good. If it starts with starting fluid then it is definitely a fuel problem.

SOURCE: Coleman Powermate Powerbase 4000 -no AC Need Field test procedur

Check the voltage sent to the field when running. It will probably be around 12 volts. You can try connecting a lantern battery BRIEFLY to the field to re-magnetize the field. Try bothe polarites.

Some have had a bad rectifier and one had a bad transformer that generaates the low voltage from the generated output. He had a broken wire from the winding to the wire from the transformer. He was able to reconnect the failed solder joint.

Testimonial: "Thanks for info. I had it solved. I found the 130uf 200V rated cap was bad. 12 volts to the brushed did re-energize the field, power is operating. TY"

SOURCE: I have a Coleman Powermate Powerbase 4000 Extended

Well, its not exactly a published procedure, but this is what I would do.

Check field for continuity between leads, as well as continuity from each lead to the core. Between leads, you should have continuity, but you shouldn't be able to measure anything (perhaps in megohm range) between leads and core.

Once you have continuity, check your diode. You should have continuity in one direction only. If not, replace diode. Don't worry about capacitor / regulator at this moment.

Check stator winding for continuity between leads, (don't forget the 12 volt winding too), as well as between each lead and the core. You should not have continuity to the core from any lead.

Make sure breakers are reset, then check continuity through them. Should have it, replace if not. Same goes for the outlet itself.

Reassemble the engine, and start it. Check for a DC voltage at the 12volt battery charger port. If you have it, then your capacitor / regulator is shot. If you don't have it, replace the diode (even if checked good) and the capacitor / regulator. If still don't have 120vac, you can try to flash the field by momentarily touching a small lamp battery (6 volt lantern) to the core, and to one of the brushes. Just for a moment. Then restart. Exact flashing instructions are usually in the user manual.

Have fun!

How do you remove the start stop switch mounted on the rope pull housing on the coleman 5000 powermate 7500 watt unit. You can't get the housing off without removing the start stop switch.

without seeing it, they usual have enough lead length to allow the cover to be moved so you can get to the wire, The switch usually has a blade with a slide connector that can be removed.

I have a Coleman Powermate 5000 Model number PC54-5000 serial # 56980042 attached to a Briggs and Stratton 11 HP motor. It came to a grinding halt the other day and oil came seeping out between the motor...

A lot of these have a Woodruff key and are on a taper.

Some have success in seperating by putting a bolt in the end of the rotor shaft and pulling with a slide hammer to seperate. Make sure bolt has MANY threads engaged. Slide hammers are an autobody tool with a weighted handle that slides on a rod until it hit the end stop giving a sharp pulling force. Some have tried to fake this using a chain and a weight to give a yank on the bolt.

I can't be sure about yours however.

I have a Coleman Powermate 5000 / No power output

Two suggestions. One: check for voltage from the secondary coil wires (if it has one). Two: unless stated do not do this, I have always flashed the excitor circuit through the 120vac receptical. Give these a shoot and I hope it works for you.

Coleman 5000 generater-no AC output

Try replacing the capacitor. You can buy it from http://www.jackssmallengines.com/do_it_home.html. When you pull off the power end of the generator look at the diodes also. If they look toasted replace them as well

Powermate 6250 model pm0545007.01 engine runs no a.c. output

You will need to install new diodes, they are located in the plastic housing behind the receptacles...It looks like little spark plugs..They work to put dc voltage to the rotor, without the exciter voltage applied, you will not get ac power out..The part number is 3483.01....You can buy these online for about $6 each, they have 2 inside the generator, and you should change both.
