I've connected a cable box HDMI output and a Blu Ray DVD HDMI output to the HTR HDMI input. The connection worked at first however after a few days, both device's HDMI output ports no longer output video. I've tested them by connecting them directly to the TV. The component video of both devices still work.
I believe the HTR HDMI "input" port is blowing up the HDMI output ports of devices that I connect to it.
I have replaced the cable box and am thinking about testing my theory by connecting it to the HTR again.
Has anyone heard of this problem? Is there a non-destructive way to test my theory?
Thank you,
Norm
I know this sounds stupid, but have you "toggled" or "played" with the HDMI cables? are they the same manufacturer? HDMI channel connections are very fickle. If just one connection is not exactly correct, they go to a limp, no go status. Since they run at such a minimal voltage, i can't see them "blowing" the outputs on the devices.however....if your cable has a serial type output for video only, I would connect the hdmi convertor to it and see if it works.

I've tried different cables, and re-connecting multiple times and the HDMI ports appear to have failed after time connected to the HDMI input ports of the HTR.
When my replacement cable box came, I used the same cable to connect directly to the TV and it works. Thanks anyway.
I have exactly the same problem . My reciever is new but if I only slightly touch the HDMI cable the picture on tne t.v. is lost. However, if I wiggle the other end of the cable that connects to my Hd box or T.V. the picture is not affected. It seems to be a problem with the reciever 's HDMI inputs as opposed to the cable? In addition I had to return the first reciever I bought (same Yamaha) because the DVD input was not working on it. Any solutions? I probably will end up returning this reciever. i don't want something new that already has issues that may turn into bigger problems. I'm assuming this is not a widespread problem with recievers?
