I took the back off and checked the fuses which are good. I didnt see anything obviously burnt, missing or broken. No funny smells. I am about to take all the nobs etc. off so I can take the top cover off. Could it be a bad ribbon cable? anybody heard of this problem before?
Are you able to get a dry mix under these circumstances? If it is simply a dry version of the wet signal as you have turned the effects off yes it is possible a ribbon cable has come loose but it is more likely that an IC has died, this is not uncommon in these and they exhibit a range of symptoms including yours. If yea are happy to take apart and have a tame service centre this should save you quite a bit as the biggest cost is dismantling and rebuilding. As this is not unusual issue they should be able to fix quite easily

Yes, the ribbon cable is the 1st thing I would check. You can check the ribbon like this: Disconnect said cable from the channels. Connect cable connector from a known good channel to the problem channel. If channel sounds the same trace a signal through the channel op-amps.

Unless you are in super humid environment, this is more likely a crack in the circuit board OR a bad connector on a ribbon cable. Also BROKEN or cold solder joint for a connector pin through the circuit board.
Good way to cause this with ribbon cables is to NOT distribute the load when pulling them off. Often the wires near the edge are stretched and make poor contact with the little forks that pierce the insulation.
CRC226 is a good product to use for contacts. Available at Home Depot in the electrical department. Blue spray can. Use sparingly.

Refer to your EV user manual, page 23, part 2.
You run the outputs of the Mackie into the stereo "returns" on the EV.
Use TRS interconnect cables as these are balanced lines.

Your power amp should be connected to MAIN OUT left and right. NOT the MAIN "in".
The CD is connected correctely as you described. Make sure the CD has a line level output to match the input expected by the mixer.
Note:Walkman style CD players require a special cable to go between 1/8 inch stereo to dual RCA plugs.
You have to advance the MAIN fader.
You should be using TRS interconnect cables from the mixer to your amps OR using XLR cables.

A few questions first:
1) Does this effect the functioning of the "solo" at all? (ie is the light on always but without effect and can you select solo using the pushbutton?) We need to determine whether or not the problem is a funcitonal one or just the indicators being lit when they shouldn't be.
2) Are there any other symptoms at all? Any other lights effected at all or any functions not working as expected?
I will look up the prints for this, but I need to narrow down the search a bit. Gaining access to the board is not quick as all of the knobs need to be removed and all of the control nuts removed as well. If we can narrow this down a bit, you may be able to avoid that.
Please post up the info requested and I'll pull up the prints.
