Viewsonic n3250w LCD-TV

My TV seems to be looking for a signal and the screen is blank. The green power light is on and the unit makes a chirping sound. I have tried using all ports with different sources and nothing changes. Any way to reset the TV?

I went to two shops that told me the price would be in the $500 range without even looking at the TV.

How can I find a reputable shop, or, better, can I fix this myself? I have a working knowledge of electronics and circuitry.

That chirp indicates a feedback on the secondary transformer in the switch mode power supply and needs to be either repaired or replaced. A good shop can have this one back up in an hour or so - assuming they have the parts on-hand... If they have to replace the SMPS you'll naturally have to wait a few days. Most shops don't have such specific parts on-hand and will have to order it.. Replaced an entire SMPS for an Akai recently with the same symptom, chirping. Turned-out to be the regulators and two MOSFET's. A MOSFET is a metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor.. In laymen's terms a switching gate. But below the two MOSFET's, when they went thermal they burned the board and several small traces which could not be bridged. The SMPS was $70.00 plus shipping, and you're probably going to be somewhere in that ballpark on this too if the whole SMPS has to be replaced. Good Luck Bill

To find a reputable shop I would recommend the NESDA site: http://www.nesda.com/locator/state_searc...
That should point you in the right direction with that part of your question.
Second, a working knowledge is great but it won't substitute for the tools you'll need. At a minimum you would need a DMM, ESR meter and 20Mhz scope. You may also need a signal generator and logic probe. So, repairing this yourself is not probably possible unless you do what we call in the industry a shotgun repair. That type of repair would most likely be $500.00 or more...
That said, if you have the right stuff to remove the back and remove the SMPS yourself you could send it in to PTS Electronics and have it overhauled. You might try calling them and see what they would charge to make the repairs to the power supply. Have the model number of the unit handy.
PTS can be reached at: 800-844-7871
    Good Luck
    Bill

My Viewsonic N3250w tv I have had for 4 years no longer powers up. If you hit the button it lights up around the switch but then almost immediately powers back down. Does this sound like a power supply...

Power supply module will be the first thing to check, look for bad caps, find out if it has standby 5vdc and other voltages.

Viewsonic N3250w. Power supply went out and I replaced the bad capacitors. TV worked for a week then now when I turn it on, the screen just turns on and off

Check to see if the 24vdc disappear when the screen black out, it is always there then you have problem in the backlight inverter board. Did you replace the caps in the 24vdc supply also? I replace the whole set.

Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Please post back what you find. If the tech installed a used power supply, it may be bad also. 3 years are typical for capacitors to go bad.

LCD screen glows super bright then shuts down with red pwr lite

The ps voltages need to checked with inverter plugged in otherwise you can't verify a p/s failure. most likely you will need a new inverter/ps. Julio [email protected]

ViewSonic N3250W will not turn on

Do you get a red standby light at all? If not, I'd look first for the standby transformer as being defective. There may also be a fuse right by the AC power cord. Look around inside and update this with your results. Post whether or not there is a standby. We'll need to go step by step on this one.
