I fell and on my lumix DMC- ZS5 lens.

The lens is stuck and when I power it on,I get a System error (zoom). Will not close or open to normal position.

I had to take it in for repair. I cost me CAD $125 to replace the lens unit since they had one from a return so it was worth it. I have my camera back and am a happy camper! Thanks :)

SOURCE: system error (zoom) camera frozen Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ28

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Hi could you clarify, the plastic doors in front of the lens are stuck half open, but the lens has retracted inside the camera or is the lens in half open position outside of the camera.

SOURCE: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 shows "SYSTEM ERROR

Sounds like the Focus and Optical Image Stabilization drive motors are bound or broken. To fix this wrong will need disasemble the lens unit, focousing unit to do service; if needs, replace the damaged parts and assemble to run normally. Don't do this if your camera is under warranty.

Or, unless there are no marks on the case and they wouldn't think that it had been dropped or gotten wet, well you know, Panasonic will normaly repair or replace it as long as it is due to manufacture defect.

Hope this helps.

My Panasonic lumix camera model DMC-ZS5 is stuck with the lens out and the screen reads system error (focus). How can I reset it?

To avoid damage, most cameras with retractable lens, will shut down, when while the lens should move (in or out) something is obstructing the movement. That can be a hand in the wrong place, or just a purse, just anything.
If this happens, you should switch of the camera. Then remove the battery, giving the camera a restart after you reinsert the battery (same as a cold boot from a computer)
When after reinserting the battery, the lens returns to the normal place, you are lucky.
If it does not move, it could be a serious mechanical problem occurred, like something broke in the lens barrel, or the lens motor is defect.
Just try what I told, and lat us hope after that you never see this problem.

Lumix dmc-fs12c

Lens errors (System or Zoom Errors on Panasonics) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Regarding the Panasonic DMC-ZS5 camera: what is the default focal length set at when the camera is turned on?

The default is the widest setting for the lens. So, for example, if the lens was a 4.1mm to 49.2mm, it would open at the 4.1mm setting and you could zoom in from there.

Lens stuck

It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
