So to summarize, diatomaceous earth (DE) in conjuction with permethrin can wipe out a small, isolated infestation. If the bugs have moved to multiple places, heat is the best option as a whole-house solution as DE and Permethrin will not get into all the nooks and crannies like inside the walls and electrical outlets.
