Windows 7 has something set wrong if you are showing 2.6GB usable. Windows 7 will recognize 3GB regardless of whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit.

My Toshiba 250gb external hard drive model hddr250e03x is not recognized by my macbook pro but the light turns on. It works on my friend's macbook pro but not mine

I'm assuming you mean it doesn't appear in Finder. Open up disk utility and it should appear there if you say the MacBook is providing power to the hard drive light. You may have to reformat or reset your Mac if you want it in finder

My toshiba external hard drive is not being recognised

This problem occurs when the external drive is removed from the computer before the host computer has finished writing to the drive. This can cause the drive to fail and require formatting. When using a plug in drive you need to allow the system write to complete before removing it. This goes for Flash memory sticks/cards and hard drives.Try restarting the computer with the external drive plugged in and switched on, this may cause the fault to be fixed. Good luck.

How i can reformat toshiba canvio 320 g on my macbook pro

To totally reformat the hard drive which will delete everything off it. Go to your applications folder and then to the utilities folder and double-click on disk utility. In the left hand column select your drive then select the erase button once on the erase section select the format you want to format the drive in (if you are only going to use it on a mac select Mac OS Extended, if it is going to be used on both macs and PCs select MS-DOS (FAT)) then choose the name you want to call your drive and then select erase.

REMEMBER THIS WILL WIPE ALL THE FILES ON YOUR HARD DRIVE.

Hope this helps.

How do I reformat my toshiba canvio 500gb external hard drive for my macbook? If I go to disk utility and erase it, wont it erase the backup software as well?

The disk utility programs should be on the main drive inside the computer...you need to make sure you tell the program which drive you want to erase..Say the external drive comes up as drive "d"..then you want to tell the drive utility software to erase the "d" drive
