check the motor capacitor if your motor doesn't turn when powered, otherwise the "wig-wag"coil could be faulty, these coils shift your transmission for different cycles

I have a GE Top Load washer model # EWA 5600G. The washer idiot light indicates the washer is in the wash mode, however nothing is happening, tub is full of water, but no adigation....motor is not...

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I understand based on your post you have a GE topload washer, model EWA5600G, correct ?

The most common problem which manifest in the manner you've described is the lid switch. I don't know what you've done aside from what you mentioned, "Tub spins freely, belt is on, motor is not running." but I'd suggest checking the switch.

The motor should only come on in the spin cycle if no water is present...if it is indeed full of water and ready to cycle then it will come on as well.

If you do not have motor action present at anytime no matter where the cycle is, I'd be suspicious of the lid switch. Have you tried by-passing the lid switch and testing it in spin ?

As you can see there are many possible scenario's that may prevent the motor from operating, a timer, a lid switch, a pressure switch and of course the motor itself. That's getting ahead of things though.

Let me know what results from by-passing the lid switch and perhaps that will get us moving forward again. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Washer wont spin

hello,

The washer will not spin/rinse if it cannot drain the tub first. To start with check the drain pump for any clogs/obstructions; also check the drain hose for any blockages.

After this is done check the drain pump motor and drain pump, also check the wire harness from the CCU (central control unit) to drain pump and replace the part that has gone bad.

thanks.

I have a GE wcx1070 and it will not agitate or spin will fill the tub and drain but won't spin. I have checked for obstrutions in the tub and under the agitater. and the belt looks good if it does spin it...

I think it might be the lid switch. 8e3407e.jpgas you can see it can fail mechanically and electrically. To get to the lid switch you remove the front panel firstf373b4d.jpgthen you can remove the top and access the slid switch.

Washer does not spin and drain

It's most likely that the lid switch which is either loose or faulty. The lid switch keeps the tub from spinning when the lid is up or the door is open -- it's a safety feature.

More info, let me know...

Washer starts to spin and quits after 10 seconds. It is like the spin timer is set to short or something.

place a screwdriver into the lid switch hole when the lid is up, timer on spin be careful as the tub will probably start to spin
if it does check lid switch and, lid for a broken lid pin that goes in the lid switch hole

WHDRR418G1WW WASHER WON'T AGITATE OR SPIN, NOT MAKING NOISES. FILLS AND DRAINS FINE.

sounds like you have a broken lid switch on the washer, maybe someone slammed the door or placed or stood on top of the washer, a broken lid switch won't allow washer to go into spin mode is a safety device so if is on spin cycle an someone sticks their hand it the machine stops an not breaks your hand.

broken lid swtich

good luck leave some feedback thanks!
