Refrigerator Keeps Running

GE TBX 18LKE refrigerstor keeps good temperature in frezzer and box but it seems to run too long - several hour cycles. Fridge will run for several months before there is any sign of frost on coils at back of frezzer.

A fridge normally runns for 16 hours a day, it sounds like it does exactly that. It is doing everything it serpose to. Is there anything else that it is doing? If you can give me any information I will try to help. But it sounds fine so far

Have a GE TFX25JR/TFT25JR refrigeratorfreezer fan runs forever

Look inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel and there should be a defrost timer. Part number WR9X489 and that is the only reason that I can think of that would keep the fan running all the time. What I think is the contacts that normally open to let the freezer defrost are fused or welded themselves together. If compressor cycles and temperatures are OK (safe) that leads me to that needing replaced. I will look for the wiring diagram for your model but have found it hard to really get those answers from GE. But most timers are universal as long as the time of defrost and hours between are correct, Let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

does it run all night too?
the fridge will run as long as it needs to to obtain and maintain the selected temperature,

The freezer does not maintain its temperature periodically. It will go from 0 -70, melt everything and return to 0. started last week and happens about 24-36 hours apart. Repairman (long time sub zero...

Is the freezer side empty or nearly so? All modern frost-free units must go through a defrost cycle every 8-12 hours of accumulated running time. That figures out to every 20-40 hours in real life, and the box will be in defrost for maybe 15-30 minutes, depending on design. If the box is full of frozen food, the cycle goes unnoticed as you cannot freeze and thaw food that fast (the food actually keeps the compartment cold during the cycle). However, if the box is full of air, the temperature can change very rapidly. I suspect this to be your case. I am dumbfounded that your servicer didn't explain this to you.

Refrigerator temperature climbs and takes too long to recover.

Look at following areas for the model number
  • Beneath Or Inside Food Compartment On Cabinet Frame
  • On Plate Lower Front Or Rear Of Cabinet
  • Beside Compressor Door On Right End
  • Near Rear Of Cabinet
  • Inside Liner At Top
  • Send this information so I can help you better, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Refrigerator

unless the airflow is obstructed (like the refrigerator is on carpet), then it should not run more than a couple hours at a time. if you just got it today and loaded it up with stuff then it might take 24 hours for the temperatures to stabilize.
