My maytag neptune washer fills with water, but won't agitate, it just makes a hummmming sound like it wants to turn but doesn't. Is there anything I can do to fix problem or do I need a repair man?

The Maytag Neptune front load has a liquid counter weight that makes it sound as though it is not empty. This is a normal sound, they all sound like that, even mine.
Try this: When the washer should be agitating, try turning your load size switch back and forth a few times. If you are on a medium load, going to a larger load should cause it to begin filling again, going to a smaller size should start the motor for agitate. If this works, your pressure / water level sense switch is okay, but the switch for load size is faulted / or is on its way out. If you went from a medium load, to a higher load, then your pressure switch is faulted as well.
The "nf" code is a "no-fill" fault. This indicates that your washing is not getting water supplied to it, or the pressure isn't substantial enough to complete a fill. You need to, first, make sure the water supply is turned on. Second, if the water IS turned on, and you're still not getting anything to your washer, you may have a fill valve problem. The fill valve is what both your hoses connect to on the back of the machine. It can become clogged with sediment over time (especially, if you have hard water or well water). Turn the water supply off and remove both hoses from the back of the washer. Check both these hose connections for clogs in the filter screens. If they are clear, then more than likely the fill valve has gone bad. I hope this helps you.
