My HP DV4000 beeps when I press the power button and the screen will stay black.

It's making 3 beeps, one long, then 2 short, like beeeeeeeep, beep beep. It will stay on with a black screen (no backlight, no image even looking at it with a flashlight, so not a backlight issue).

This POST error code maybe -
one long, two short beeps

  • System board failure
  • Video adapter problem
  • LCD assembly failure

Testimonial: "I had already thought of that, but since I couldn't find any notebook beep code charts (there are plenty for desktops, instead) I asked for confirmation. This seems to be video card related. I think I'll just ditch this old notebook and get a new one. Thanks anyway."

SOURCE: one long beep, two shorter beeps - HP laptop will not start up

Hi...
I had the same problem...
The solution is only temporary and you will have to reapply it after around 5 to 6 boots cuz it'll just happen again (the beep syndrome).

Just heat up the laptop by turning it on and covering its air vents with your hands.

Then after you hear the beeps turn it off.
Turn the laptop on again and immediately turn it over upside down with the lid closed ofcoarse (simply put it on its back).Hopefully you wont hear the beeps and when you open up the laptop lcd...voila display.

first remove the cover of your computer after switching off the system and removing the power plug the power the system and see whether the processor fan is working if not power off the system and remove the 24 pin connector from the smps to the motherboard and short the green and black pin of the conector from the smps and see the smps fan is working if not replace the smps if working then remove the memory from the slot and clean them or change the memory to which match the dimm slot an connect the connector and switch on the computer
tip

Fix the 80010514 error on your PS3

If your Play Station 3 (PS3) gets the 80010514 error somewhere, you can try this to resolve the problem:

1. Make sure that the power indicator on the Play Station 3 system is solid red. To do this, press and hold the power button until the PS3 beeps and the light blinks. Once the light has turned solid red, turn the power switch in the back off.

2. Turn the switch back on, then press and hold the power button.

3. Keep holding the power button even after you hear a short beep after 5 seconds.

4. After 10 seconds, you will hear another short beep and the system will shut down (release the button at this point).

5. Press and hold the power button again.

6. Continue holding the power button even after you hear a short beep after 5 seconds.

7. Release the button when two short beeps are emitted after 7 seconds.

8. As instructed by the on-screen message, plug in the controller and press the PS button

9. Select restore Play Station 3 system.

This should not affect any of your save games, demos, etc. but just to be safe you might want to back up to an external USB hard drive.

To backup saves, go to the Play Station 3 Save Data Utility, select the save you wish to copy and hit the Triangle button. Copy should come up as one of the options. If it does not then the save game is copyright protected and can’t be copied. If you can copy it, make sure you have a USB drive attached and copy it to that.

Graphics card failure. There is no cure for the problem at HP but see if your model is on recall (as some are) or phone HP to find out if you can get a free repair for their poor quality cards

Screen goes black on my hp pavilion dv4000 notebook

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up the laptop. The video data will switch to the monitor automatically, check if the monitor dislays a normal image and see if the image stays on the monitor.
Also press and hold the Fn key and press the F4 key, these keys toggle the video output between the LCD screen and the video port.
Test to see if this functions correctly.
Get back to me with the results of the tests.

HP Pavilion dv4000 does not power up.

I have had this happen a couple of times but not sure if its the same for you. There is a small button on the upper right that engages whenever the laptop screen is closed. I was experiencing the same thing when I accidentally brushed the button. I didn't notice anything happen but, I next pressed the power button and it came on???? I guess there is some dohicky in there that triggers the off feature. I haven't decided to ignore this with software yet.

I saw this while researching charging issues where a new battery is installed, calibrated and now will not charge?? any ideas?

Computer turns on, but won't work afterwords

Hi,

Nev, the two loud beeping sound of the system when turning it on could be a problem with the memory or the system board.

Try disconnecting the power and take out the battery, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then look for the memory comparment and reseat it.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
