Hi Debbie. Your speed control either needs adjustment or repair. You can download for free, a Kitchenaid Service manual from www.mendingshed.com This will help you or a tech to do the necessary work.

On page 11 of the manual, note there is a screw that enables changing depths of mixer attachments thus preventing scrapes on bowl. These adjustments must be done rather slightly. Do not over-adjust. Click a degree or so at a time. Trust this resolves and happy cooking (or baking) as the case may be.
