Hello I am a chippie going to be working in Europe(specifially Ireland) for 12 months and have decided to bring my own power tools with me. My problem is that they have a different voltage system over there I think its 240 volt mains and our mains here run at 110. I'm just wondering can I just buy a standard DeWalt charger over there, which would run off of 240 for my tools batteries and charge them off of that or do i need to get a volt convertor and change the plug on my existing 110 charger and plug it into that? I'm just not sure cos I imagine an 18 volt battery is an 18 volt battery regrardless of whether its charged off of 110 or 240 volt, or am I wrong in assuming that? I don't want to write off my batteries anyone I've asked is unsure and some people have suggested that the 18 volt battery will somehow be damaged by charging it on one of their 240 volt chargers? Any help you could give would be much appreciated and probably save me a lot of money if I can't charge them on a new 240 volt charger. Thanks in advance.
