I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder that won't play a DVD that is Region 1. I live in Region 1, the recorder was purchased in Region 1 and the disc says Region 1. The model is DMR-ES20. I am a novice at hooking up electronic devices and appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks! Jane Dougherty
Panasonic has a firmware upgrade for your model of DVD player which might solve the problems you're describing. The website, with the downloadable file and instructions on creating a CD that will upgrade your machine, is here: --> http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vDownloads?storeId=15001&langId=-1&page=DVDFirmware (The firmware upgrade file for your machine is near the bottom of the page, so scroll down.) Hope this helps! ;)
Probably your panasonic DVD Recorder is not a region 1 and if you burn that disc on another device your DVD RECORDER will not play the disc.your panasonic recorder will only play disc that it burns ,and ,maybe some others.it is a coding from different manufactures.big buissines.good luck.
Your recorder will normally give you 5 changes at different regions, and on the last region change that is the one that it stays on, although if you you have never changed the region go to> my computer>right click on your dvd drive>properties and on the hardware tab, your hard drive and dvd drive will show, highlight your dvd drive and click properties and click the dvd regions tab and look at the region to see wot its set at, if you still have 5 changes, it should be set at your region one, if there are no changes left you need to search and download a region free dvd programme to allow any region dvd to be played programme

This DVD Recorder is hooked up to my tv.
The screen says something like "This disc cannot be played in this region"
The disc plays normally in my other DVD player.
