My HP Officejet 6500 A suffers from frequent (by my standards) print head clogs. Yes, I know how to run the software that cleans the printhead and that's always the first thing I try. But there's been a handfull of times that I've had to resort to taking the print head out and giving it a bath to get it cleared, which seems like a lot for the two years that I've owned this device. Is this a common problem with this model? Maybe the fact that I use XL ink cartridges but don't print very often is part of the problem? Yes, I'm buying genuine brand-name HP ink.
INK PROBLEM
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

I would recomend you that if your printer is in warrenty then call HP technical support.
your printer might need a replacement.
SOURCE: machine cannot read new ink cartridge, is frozen
Is the ink cart a third party? if so replace with orgnial manufacture cart

Ok guys, I appreciate your responses, but would appreciate if you'd read the question in enough detail to realize that I'm not an idiot. I know how to clean the printhead, both with the internal software and physically, and have done so repeatedly. I'm asking what factors are contributing to the frequent clogs so that I might (or might not) choose to do something about it, not how to clear the clogged ink (which I've already done and am prepared to do next time also).
