WEGA SONY TV having srtong burning smell coming from behind...

If it is Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 tv then it seems time to replace lamp in tv to solve this issue.
When did you replaced lamp in tv last time? If lamp has not been replaced in 2-3 years then replace it to fix tv problem.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual, please buy Sony original lamp from nearest Sony store for good picture in tv.

Sounds like the bulb popped up... does it smells like there something that burned? any error light?

LOOK IF YOURS IS A SONY I had a sony grand wega 60 inch with the same problem as many tv turns on shuts off the red led FLASHED 4 TIMES. it is a heating issue if one of the three fans inside are not turning when the tv is on even on the first few seconds of turning it on the tv will send a fault code of four flashes . Then the tv shuts off so it wont burn its self up or damage the optical block. all with this same problem of 4 flashes take a flashlite and make sure your fans are turning if not that is your 4 flash problem. I hope this helps someone and if it does i have done my job .

It sounds that there is some magnet near by TV that is affecting picture tube. Please remove any extra speaker or any thing that has strong magnet inside, unplug TV for 20-30 minutes, replug back in, turn it ON, hope that will solve your TV problem.

The 4 blink fault code means one of the fans is faulty or the H4 module in the TV.

Hi Marcie,If you are familiar with tv service We can give you some ideas but that will mean opening the back and checking volts and possibly bad components,if you are not too famiiar I would suggest you to play it safe and seek the assistance of a professional.
