Make sure the Ethernet cable going from the modem to the computer is secure. Then go to your computers control panel and clock network connections. Look in LAN, any try to find your connection. If it isnt there , than you will need to call your ISP, and they will install it all correctly for you at no charge.

when you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).
put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.
check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)
access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.

are you sure your hooking the comcast modem in the right place?

This could be a duplex issue. When you log into the belkin does is assign you an IP address? Have you used a ballpoint pen to reset the EMTA since you have connected the router?
SOURCE: modem password and login
Modem login and password are required to set up your router. They are on your computer somewhere and I forget where. I've had a router for quite a while. The easiest way is th phone your internet supplier and ask them what they are. The package they sent you when you first signed up would contain all that but if it is lost (very comon) just check with your ISP.
