Screen goes blank after a second. Attempting to perform an internal examination, nothing to unscrew --> no screws

Common cause of this is the VGA or DVI connectors not screwed on tight on either the back of the PC or the back of the monitor.
Also try removing power by unplugging for 30 seconds, sometimes that will reset things.

Hi, September 2008 and still problems happening with the LG screens. Mine is a Flatron W1942T.
I hit the screen as suggested (my old mum was a great believer in " if it won't work kick it", this applied to anything electrical, tele, vacuum cleaner etc.,) and guess what? my old mum was right. The screen came on.
Hope this works if it happens again. I'd turned everything off because of an electrical/thunder storm. Won't do that again.

t certainly seems like the monitor is not getting a signal. Did this
happen after you changed something, or just on normal boot up?
It could be the video card that has failed.
Also, check the pins on the connector; sometimes they can get pushed in.
If you can, try swapping out the video card or use the monitor on another computer.
Good luck,

Hello Robert,
You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

I had the same issue. Only after a few hours did I realize that the power cord wasn't plugged into the monitor as far as it can go. So try pushing it in more, perhaps it will help you too.

After reading a few posts. The problem is definitely the screen because I tested it on another PC; Same behaviour. For the time being, my mother is using another screen and can continue her work. However, she has no intention of a keeping a rectangular screen similar to the HP 2159m. She wants a replacement square one, and she won't bother using an old bulky cathode tube screen either. (no room on her desk) As for her busted FLATRON L1718S, I am trying to get her open by prying off its face, no good so far. There are no screws at all anywhere, although it does have screw holes in the back. (I guess it never had any) A little help here, please.
Thanks for nothin' guys. I managed to figure it out myself. Although I am not happy with the damages I caused. It was difficult and also necessary to pry off the black plastic cover at the folding latch between the base and the display screen in order to access 4 hidden screws which was keeping the inverter and the other electronics stuck to the rear half of the entire casing. Some bits of plastic are gauged out because of the screw driver, however I am sure the rest is undamaged. I will shall proceed with the repairs, checking the inverter and those capacitors. Thanks anyway for the other advice given.
I was able to access the board inside no problem. After poking around for a while with my multi-tester (testing all resistors, the caps, and other components), the 2 transformers labeled "SPW-067 Rohs DARFON 611062 622035.." are shorted. I did a lot of research, and the results are inconclusive. Even though I judged it necessary to try, I couldn't find any exact replacements anywhere online. This sucks! I guess some things aren't just meant to be fixed. : ( At least I learned something, and tried : )
