No picture - blinking stand by light - can turn on, blue background comes on for five to ten seconds, TV then turns off and stand by light blinks. the light is still blinking but I did not watch it long enough to notice a sequence.
I hve worked on a number of these units , your description is typical of a shorted blue picture tube. The protection circuits in the tv detect that there is a problem thus shutting the unit down to prevent further damage. Sony had a bad run of picture tubes in this series. The replacement cost of the tube is about $250 plus labor. My estimate would be for the repair about $400-500 depending on where you live and how honest your local technican is. I will caution you however, that you could replace this tube and the red or green could go. These would not be covered by the technicians warranty. When these sets are working, they have a superb picture and it is easy to get lured into fixing them. Scrivitron

I replaced the lamp light. When i turn the tv on the stand by light will blink but no picture. Or sometimes the picture will appear then goes blank again.
