Our Kenmore Trio started having a chemical smell so we turned it off and unplugged it. We vacuumed behind and under the front area and plugged it back in. Smell still present.

SOURCE: Burned electrical smell from the freezer compartment

I would check the defrost thermostat usually a button type switch with 2 wires on it mounted to the freezer coil. Size depends on type ; 1 type is about quarter size, 1 is about dime size, and electronic sensor (not had one burn out but the board could smell like your description but I believe these are not in the freezer section).

I have had these cook out and smell up the freezer section before. And if they go out guess what it wont defrost either. If your fan motor goes out it might smell and wont cool all over but the frost should be minimal.

Also a bad defrost heater could make a smelly situation it is usually a black rod or aluminum colored and the rubber ends can burn and make a smell.
If you find its the heater, I would replace the defrost thermostat as well. Its suppose to cut off the heater before it gets too hot.

If this helps you find your problem please rate me as high as possible if not please post back with more information as to what you did find. Thanks for using fix ya and good luck.

Hi,
In the freezer behind the false wall is an evaporator, surrounding this is a heater for defrost purposes. While inspecting this, look to see if the heater has made contact with the liner in any way, it is possible but rare the cal-rod heater has changed shape and made contact with the liner. So when the heater comes on during defrost it melts the liner giving off a chemical/burnt plastic smell. Best repair in this problem is to move or relocate the heater away from the liner, seal the liner with silicon and tape (a nylon tape), be sure to clean the heater also to prevent more smells. Good Luck

Why is smell coming from behind neff fridge

The smell could come from many things. Food which fell behind the fridge, etc. A dead mouse, etc.

Move the fridge out - it has rollers. Clean the floor behind it, while at it, it become terrible unsanitary over years. Take a vacuum and suck up all the dirt around the compressor area. Your refrig will run better and become more efficient. Less cost of electricity. Pull out the pan under the fridge and empty the year long water it has collected. The pan must be pulled out from the front after removing the fake bottom panel connected either with clips or 2 screws in front bottom. The clips just unsnap when you pull the panel.

MY 52 INCH RCA HDTV-MODEL #D52420 POWER BUTTON WILL COME ONE THEN QUICKLY OFF, THE THERE IS A STRONG BURNING SMELL.

First is to unplug the set and remove back cover---some of these have a resistor in right rear area(as seen from back) that smokes.

If that---the high voltage splitter block up at the very front of the set behind the front grill and inspection plate behind that is burnt. It gets the resistor.

IF ITS SMOKING DO NOT LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN OR KEEP TRYING TO TURN IT ON--POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE.

A lot of time a chemical smell is the result of blown capacity where the electrolitic is leaking out. Large caps are used in the moter start circuit and are usually located close to the motor. After awhile there will be an impact on the motor starting and the performance of your machine.

If it is the belt slipping you would get a burnt oil smell. If it was the blower motor or the drive motor it would be more of an electrical smell - burnt plastic type.

Burnt plastic smell coming from bottom of frig

This is a sign of a short and should be looked at immediately. A smell like that is a sign of something burning. I could be the start relay and start capacitor with overload. But I would not sleep with the possibility of a fire. I will look over your model and see if I can find what this could be, Sea Breeze

Oh by the way it will be getting worse!!! The solution replace the Freezer Fan motor.it cost about $78.00 plus shipping. they are located behind the freezer rear wall. They are very labor intensive to replace because the electrical leads are attached just out of reach. I have a 33" arm and I had to act like a contortionist to unplug them.

Kenmore Trio 596.735073200 Frig & Freezer aren't working

Behind the removable toe plate at the bottom front there is a wire grill condenser. Using you vacuum cleaner and crevasse tool clean it out as best you can. Sometimes it helps to blow out this area with compressed air.

Next look for frost on the back wall of the freezer section. If there is frost you have a defrost system problem. Let me know what you find.

Smells like it is burning up when I use it!

You should unplug the machine, then remove the plate that covers the beater bar. Remove all debris from the beater bar, (strings, hair, etc.) and insure the belt is in proper position. If you have run it very long out of proper position, it may require replacement. Next before you put it back together remove any debis that may have collected in the intake behind the bar. You can also lubricate the bar with machine oil or WD-40.
