The printer settings on the computer could be set to landscape mode. It needs to be set to portrait to print top to bottom. Did you check that setting?

The original paper size is different to copy paper size.

Are you talking about resetting the ink levels or the printer itself? I am not sure if you have the owners manual so here is the Manual from Canon website for the PIXMA MP280.

Hi there, i have the same problem, did you find a solution?

Open the printer driver setup window
Select the manual color adjustment (or if already in manual and it had initially been printing fine, you may opt to select Auto)
On the Main tab, select Manual for Color/Intensity, and click Set....
The Manual Color Adjustment dialog box opens.
Specify the brightness

Select Light, Normal, or Dark for Brightness, and click OK.
The current settings are displayed in the settings preview on the left side of the printer driver.
Complete the setup
Click OK on the Main tab.
When you execute print, the data is printed at the specified brightness.

I think that you haven't downloaded a driver.You'd better access the Internet to download one.(I just solve it in China this way.)

On the printers properties select colour intensity and switch to manual. then select 'set'. And move the light/dark control over to light, around 15 to 21 seems best.
