Problem with Bradford White M240s6ds-1ncww 40 Gallon Electric Water Heater - Sh BRADFORD WHITE 40 GALLON ELECTRIC WATER HEATER MODEL M240S6DS-1NCWW.. PROBLEM : I WAS ONLY GETTING A FEW GALLONS OF HOT WATER FROM HEATER. FIGURED ONLY TOP ELEMENT WAS HEATING SO BOUGHT TUNE UP KIT AT LOWES FOR DUAL ELEMENT UTILITECH BRAND. DRAINED HEATER INSTALLED ALL NEW STUFF FOLLOWING SAME WIRING FOR BW HEATER AND FILLED AND BLEED AIR OUT OF HEATER BEFORE TURNING POWER BACK ON. BUT STILL SAME PROBLEM ONLY HOT WATER FOR A LITTLE WHILE. CHECKED USING MULTIMETER AND UPPER ELEMENT IS GETTING 240 AT ELEMENT AND CAN FEEL IT GETTING WARM. BUT WONT TRANSFER TO LOWER THERMOSTAT OR ELEMENT. IF I MANUALLY TURN HEAT DOWN ON UPPER THERMOSTATE THEN IT WILL TRANSFER TO LOWER AND I CAN FEEL THE ELEMENT WARMING. BOTH THERMOSTATS ARE NEW AND ELEMENTS AS WELL. WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE. ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THE TUEN UP KIT THERMOSTATS ARE NOT COMPATABLE WITH BW.. BUT IT SAYS THEY ARE ON PACKAGE SO IDK. OR COULD IT BE MY DIP TUBE. BUT DIP TUBE WOULDNT CAUSE IT NOT TO TRANSFER TO LOWER ELEMENT WHEN NO WATER IS BEING USED RIGHT? SO IT HAS TO BE IN THE WIRING OR THERMOSTATS BUT ALL WIRING LOOKS GOOD

Doesn't sound like its the dip tube, its a element problem, I would contact bw directly to see if heater is stil in warranty and they will send you new parts free.

How do I light my hot water heater?

It is pretty easy - make sure gas valve is open, change control know to pilot. Press the ignitor a few times and once pilot lights up switch control to warm or hot position.

I have a new Bradford white 40 gallon gas hot water heater. There are no single handle faucets. The hot water fluctuates between hot and cold. When I close both inlet and outlet shut off for the hot water...

Sounds like water leak.
For example, broken pipe... or water running out of TP valve.
That would explain variable hot-and-cold water at tap.
Turn off all taps, and observe if water meter is registering water usage.

We have a bradford defender model # MI403S6FBN7. How do we reset it. lost manual

Water heaters are a huge field of knowledge. Problem is not 100% clear.
There is a resettable thermal switch on the combustion door. This switch is round and has two wires that come from gas control valve. Thermal switch trips when combustion parts have not been cleaned and they cause overheated condition, or sensor reads temperatures above 180, or thermal switch has gone bad, or gas control has gone bad.
