1) Be certain the radio is shut off when plugging in the audio device.
2) On most units, press the PTT button to turn off the VOX feature.
3) If you are not planning to use VOX. Turn the VOX feature off. Follow the programming instructions which came with the radio.

Hope this helps.

We recently purchased the MS350 radios and are trying to use them handfree with the headsets. We plugged in the headsets, turned on the radios, but are unable to communicated back and forth using the VOX...

The three things which come to mind are:
1) Is the headset the VOX headset intended for the radio model? Sometimes the rings on the plug do not match the internal points of contact if it is not the intended headset. Not all headsets are VOX capable.
2) Is the headset plugged in all the way. (You mentioned plugging in and then turning on. This is good. You must always have the radio turned off when plugging or unplugging an audio device.)
3) Try pressing the PTT on the headset cord one time before switching the dip switch to VOX. (Assuming you have a headset with the small box in the line.)

Check your VOX/ iVOX settings. You will need VOX for using an audio device.

Lastly, if you continue to have difficulties, contact Motorola at the 800# provided in the user guide. They should be able to assist you.

Best regards.

Vox

In order to use VOX on your radio you will need a VOX capable accessory OR you can use iVOX which allows you to use talk hands free without an accessory. The instruction for both these features can be found on page 22 in the user guide.
You will need to fill in the "dot" with a "." because Fixya is not allowing insertion of links currently: giantintl dot com/ContentManage-new/manuals/Moto/T65xx.pdf
Keep in mind when using VOX the radio will open up its transmitter with any noise, not just exclusively voices. So if you are in a high noise environment you will not be able to use VOX or iVOX.
Best regards.

We tried using a headset with it. Now, without the headset it goes back and forth between iVox and regular mode everytime you push the PTT button. Is there a way to stop it from going into Vox mode?

Here is a link to the user guide, reference page 22 for instructions on turning iVOX and VOX on or off: http://www.giantintl.com/ContentManage/manuals/Moto/T65xx.pdf (Double check you do not have the lock symbol showing while trying to change programming.)

Also, another phenomenon which can occur is when you unplug a headset or audio device while the radio is still turned on. This can leave the radio partially in VOX mode. You might try plugging in the device with the radio turned off. Then turn the radio on, use the device in VOX mode. Then shut the radio off and remove the device. See if it clears the radio's sense of having a headset plugged in.

A damaged jack can also cause the same problem.

Best regards.

I cant turn the vox off of the radio. i plug in the headset and it locks the keys and i cant hear anyone talking to me through the headset.

Only plug the headset in with the radio turned off, and be certain to use a headset designed for the radio. On the SX model radios the VOX or iVOX feature is automatically set to the last sensitivity setting when you plug in an audio device. Here is a link to the user guide, where you can read how to turn iVOX and/or VOX on or off.

Just bought my two way radio. they go out but don,t receive

Check your programming. Your frequency, interference eliminator code and Qt filter (if any) must match identically between all radios in the group. Also, check to see if you have VOX or iVOX turned on/off. This radio has a feature called iVOX, which allows you to use the radio hands-free. If iVOX is turned on, and your radio is in a noisy environment, you would experience the radio being stuck in transmit mode. When this happens it will not receive.

Voice recognition on motorola t5500

That means that it will Transmit, like pressing the "Talk" button, BUT ONLY when it hears the "Voice" it was "Trained" on. So this is so No-one else could use this unit. With this method. You "Identify" yourself, and after that every-time you speak, the Transmitter is keyed, and the channel is opened and the voice sent, when you stop talking,it goes back to receive, again. Some are less sophisticated, in that they are really a "Sound Switch" and when the unit "Hears" a "Voice" it, switches OFF receive, and ON the transmitter, and Transmits the audio out.

Using headset jack - unit always transmits

Try plugging in headset BEFORE turning on radio. You should see the word VOX (not iVOX) on your display. At least this is what works for me.
