How to hook up a hp pavilion laptop to a hdtv

I have a vizio 37" hdtv, and i have a hp pavilion dv7 laptop with a blue ray player. i have tried to hook up my laptop with my tv by using a hdmi cable. at first it worked but now nothing shows up. i have read that i need a dvi to hdmi cable. i dont have a dvi input on my tv or laptop. i have a hdmi hook up on my laptop and tv. plus i have a s-video on both. is there a way to use the hdmi cable, and why is it that i hook it up and nothing shows up on my tv. any help would be great?

If it worked fine at some point then it should work fine now... i use hdmi to hdmi from my laptop to tv all the time dvi would only cause quality loss.

the first thing i would try would be to change your resolution on your laptop to a couple different settings. a lot of times, if its not set to one thats compatible with your tv, you won't see anything.

if that doesn't work, go to personalization and open the tab that says "connect an external display" and toy around with it. but yeah it doesn't sound like you have any hardware problems there.

hope this helps

I can play dvd and cds in my ble ray but i cant play blueray cd its a hp pavillion notebook

you're notebook is not blue-ray compatible, most likely. You're laptop, dv2000t PC, was made when blue-ray was not manufactured yet. OR, maybe you can try a blue-ray running player software; try searching for it on google.
