Olympus SZ-20 has frozen with picture on screen

Originally a picture was frozen, camera wouldn't turn off. Let the charge run out and re-charged, when i turned it on, the Olympus logo froze on the screen and i can't turn it off again. It's new! Only charged four times now, one of those times was due to this issue.

SOURCE: Camera turns on for a few seconds, then off.

A light rap with a knuckle when powering up fixed the problem, at least temporarily. Lens extended, camera works fine. Not exactly a technical fix, but it worked for me.

SOURCE: Olympus digital camera wont turn on

First: thank you, for suggesting battery terminals. It was failing to power on intermittently for some time; the problem became more-and-more frequent until it would not come on at all. Cleaning the terminals saved my camera! Second: for others, let me suggest plain old pencil erasers as a good way to clean electrical contacts (something I learned from HO model railroads as a kid). A vigorous rub with the brand new eraser on the end of a pencil cleaned the battery contacts inside the camera.

SOURCE: Black Screen

I just started having this problem with my canon PowerShot A310 and checked their service website which says "Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair." Here's the website link: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=221&modelid=9829

My olympus sz 14 camera shows Zoom error on the screen when I turn it on and then turns off immediately. I bought a new battery a d charged the camera but it continues to shut off.

The "Zoom Error" message that appears on your Olympus SZ-14 camera's screen when you turn it on, followed by the camera turning off immediately, could be caused by a problem with the camera's lens.
Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
  1. Turn off the camera and remove the battery and memory card. Then, wait for a few minutes before re-inserting them and turning the camera back on.
  2. Try gently tapping the camera on a flat surface to try and realign the lens.
  3. Check the lens for any dirt or debris that may be blocking the movement of the lens. Clean the lens with a soft, dry cloth.
  4. Check the lens for any physical damage like dents or cracks.
  5. Try using the camera without the zoom function to see if it still turns off.
  6. Contact Olympus customer support: If you have tried all the above steps and the camera is still not working, it may be best to contact Olympus customer support for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose and fix the issue or tell you if a repair is needed.
It's important to keep in mind that the Olympus SZ-14 is an older model camera, which makes it harder to find replacement parts and professional repair services. If the camera is still under warranty, you may be able to get it repaired or replaced by the manufacturer.

I have a new olympus sz 15... after chargiong and downloading pictures... it is frozen... none of the buttons work... only the picture button does, somewhat - it will change the screen whgile holdin down...

When you put in an USB cable, the camera starts charging the battery, or when some signals come from the computer it knows it needs to send pictures you the computer and wait till it gets the order to do so.
Only for the more professional camera's there are programs so you also can use the camera in combination with a computer. Professionals buy these software and use it in a studio with the camera switched to live view.
When you want to use the camera, never leave something in the USB connector and make sure it is free from debris.
Any connection in the USB connector, can "fake" a computer or charger connection, and the camera waits till it gets a commend from that port. It won't listen to any command on any button.
When you are sure the connector is free and clean, remove the battery again and reinsert it.
If the error comes back, return the camera (or visit a Olympus certified repair centre) because it must be a warranty issue.

Lost the CD-Rom for my Olympus SZ-12

You don't need the Olympus software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

My olympus sp-590uz will turn on but is then frozen.

I have had a similar problem. My solution was to check the zoom button. It seems that when it is "out of range" you can do nothing with the camera. Try to adjust the zoom a Little bit and you will probably be "in range" and the camera with work.
