I have a wifi samsung galaxy tablet, and was recently given an edimax 3G-6218n wireless router. I have bought a postpaid Vodafone (australia) 3G quick startbusb modem so I can still use the tablet where there is no wifi connections available. The usb modem works fine in a pc/laptop and does not require a password to connect to the internet, just an initial set up installation application and it opens a vodafone connection webpage each time I connect to say it is connected. However, when i plug the modem into the router, The edimax connection appears in the list of networks (under public network / wireless connection 2) but cannot access the internet. So far, I have not been able to connect tothe internet via router! Does this mean the usb modem cant connect properly without supporting software through the router - or - does it appear as though the router has been set up incorrectly? I have followed both set up methods for the router, the cd wizard could not be completed because it said to properly connect the pc, router and modem even though I had all three connected. Method two didnt change any of the settings and I could not upgrade the firmware because it asked me for the file to upgrade with. Please help - a router is much easier to travel around with and seems pointless buying a mifi if I can somehow get this set up working!
Sure you can that. 1. you have new internet connection. need to configure the router according to internet connection type. it could be manually ..
2. set the wireless settings on the router again manually.
then try to connect the router.
If you need my help
the send me some information about the network.
1. when you connect your pc to modem what ip address you get.
2. what ip you get when u connect your pc to router. make hard wired in both condition.
and possible send me your email add.

You may be running into a problem of your ISP only allowing one computer on the internet. while the internet is on can you access the internet from the desktop comcast originally setup? If so that is more then likely your problem.
I have comcast myself and they told me they do not allow home networks. I fixed that problem by using the mac address cloning feature in my router.
The setup cd is also junk, all you should really need to do is:
1. unplug modem, router, and turn off computers
2. Plug modem into router
3. Plug computers into router (don't worry about wireless right now)
4. Turn on modem, wait 20 seconds or so for lights to set,
5. Turn on router. again wait for lights to set
6. Turn on ONE computer that is hard wired into the router
7 Try to surf the net.
8. If successfull try to connect wireless computers (Without using cd) and see if they surf.
If not call comcast and see if your computers are trying to obtain real-world ip's instead of LAN ip's like they should.
If so, you'll need to enable DHCP on the router.

HI,
Actually in short "you NEED A MODEM;"
In order to connect your router you need to connect a modem in "bridge mode'( bridge mode is nothing but a configuration on the modem)..
this is a picture of rear side of a router,,, you have to connect the modem into the wan port of the router (above),, and in port number 1,2,3,4 you can connect your computers,

I've been having the same problem where even hard wiring to the router won't work. I called USR and they had me reset to factory defaults. Now three days later, the same behavior is happening. I reset to factory defaults and it works again but I don't know for how long. Maybe these things just wear out after a while...who know.

Your wireless card is dead, replace.
SOURCE: Problem between my Qwest actiontec modem and D-link router
You need to sign into the dlink router and check the status tab, to make sure that the router has picked up the modems IP address. it sound like it hasn't, and is just assigning lan IPs to the client machines, butd oes not have a valid WAN IP to the internet.
If it hasnt got a wan ip, you want to do a hard boot on the router .unplug the router ONLY for 30 sec, and power back up the router only ...not the modem this should allow the router to find the modem IP
