First of all you need a manual that will tell you everything you need to know. Secondly , you don't have to set a variable in order to set the SWR . Your antenna should have a set screw to loosen when you adjust it.

SOURCE: refurbished dx 959 from galaxy no modulation? no transmitt?

If there is no transmit at all, it sounds like it wasn't fully refurbished. If it is just low modulation then just turn VR16 and VR14 all the way to the left.

If its not working at all, send it back. It hasn't been refurbished.

SOURCE: can't talk about 2 miles ,swr is good

If your talking at least 2 then it sounds like it is the antenna. Any antenna should talk 10-12 miles on a good day, no matter what radio you're using. So I'd get a second look at that system.

SOURCE: I was told I could run the galaxy 94hp on posts in semi truck

The Binding Posts as they are actually known are for hooking up Radios and such and have been a common feature of most truck manufactures for well over 20 years they are for convenience and to help keep down on wiring problems due to folks making poor connections to the trucks wiring harness and Yes they are sufficient to run that radio as most will support up to 500 watt amps.

SOURCE: Galaxy DX 98VHP meter stopped

You appear to be aware of you antenna system with the separate meter attached so the tells me you dont punish a radio with an high swr. I am just guessing red wire/solder in mic cord at plug given that it is a side mic mic jack.
Stock mic
1- Shield (Ground)
2- Yellow (Audio)
3- Red (Transmit)
4- White (Receive)

SOURCE: how to set

you do not "set" swr.you cannot set it on the radio. the radio can tell you what yourswr is. it can take an swr measurement. swr has to do with the antenna system. in order for the radio waves to radiate from the antenna properly, the physical length of the antenna must match the length of the radio waves. if the antenna is too long or too short you will have a higher swr ratio. the higher the ratio the less energy will leave the antenna. but that energy needs to go somewhere, so it goes back into the radio which causes damage and can ruin a radio.

first turn the channel to 20. then switch the meter switch to CAL. then key the radio. while keyed, turn the CAL knob up until the needle in the meter gets right to the CAL Mark. next flip the meter switch and key the radio. where ever he needle is, is what your swr is.if it is more the 1.5 that's getting high. if its over 2 you are in the danger zone. if its over 3 you are damaging your radio. you must repeat the calibration proceedure for every channel.to figure out weather your antenna is too long or short, you compare the swr readings from channel 1 and ch 40. if the swr is higher in 1 then on 40 the entenna is too short. if its higher on 40 then 1 its to long.

Why did my mosfets blow in my galaxy dx 94hp. The swr meter on the radio was showing a good reading?

The integrated SWR meter is probably fairly accurate and decent gear should be able to tolerate a slightly high reflected wave without collapsing in sparks and smoke.

I am not an expert on such things but there are a few possible reasons why this disaster happened. It is possible the equipment wasn't designed very well or didn't use top quality components or was designed for a fairly short duty cycle or was intolerant to a high ambient temperature or a combination of all of these things. If the unit was used beyond the duty cycle and poorly positioned in a higher than recommended ambient temperature it wouldn't be surprising that one device might fail and the others would probably follow like falling dominoes.

A sustained overload is another possible reason for failure. If the devices were badly chosen so they had to perform close to their limitations they will be stressed and vulnerable to overload.

A power supply problem is also a possibility.

It is also worth noting some semiconductor devices or the entire circuit can suffer thermal runaway and self-destruct.

That is a lot to think about. Mostly domestic (non-professional) equipment is built down to a price and as a result has a low duty cycle and less tolerance to high ambient temperatures - the sort of temperatures found in a car during the summer or that can build when a unit is placed on an indoor shelf even with the recommended airspace...

I have a galaxy dx 99v2 18 ft coax hooked directly to ball on my 102 wip and spring ,3ft jumper to swr meater all grounded to battery and power directly to battery tryed to set SWR and pegeing out

first of you have to set the SWR on the radio first . then some liniers require you to run low wattage and others high wattage . the SWR is what you have to control by keeping it low . You must take into consideration the length of the coax plus any jumpers you have . You say you have 18 ft of coax plus a 3 ft. jumper ,thats 21 ft..You should keep that jumper as short as possible ,like 12" . plus you should make sure the antenna is grounded good , like to a good spot under the vehicle . 102 " whips are supposed to be almost perfectly tuned for a good match .

I have a DX 94 HP galaxy not sure where all the switches need to be to set my antenna

The switches have no effect on antenna setup. Are you in AM or SSB? Set you meter to SWR FWD, key up an watch for reading. Then switch to REF, an see reading. If you are 1.1.3 or so on forward you are ok. If not try to get it around there. Even 1.1.5 is ok. Forward an an reflected on SWR, power shows power out.

Self adjusting SWR does not work on 959 Galaxy

the swr on the radio is not what you are thinking it is. You have to set the SWR to anything below a 2.0 and the meter will let you know when and if your swr gets to high.

You will need an SWR meter to check your antenna. FIRST.
I would find help at a local cb shop.. They SHOULDN"T CHARGE to help you SET the swr. only if you need a part or something ..
I don't charge to SET SWR"s .. only if the cust needs a insulating washer or another antenna, or new coax, so-239 etc... I would be glad to help you.. let me know if we can -- CB Shop Temple, TX

Power meter on my dx-979 barely moves off of 0 when transmitting, the swr meter also hovers around 1.0 no matter what channel...not used to seeing such low swr readings and almost nothing on the power...

Well, some meters are set different than others,to see what is going on,you need a good WATT-SWR meter, but that is not a bad reading of SWR, you can get one at Radio Shack. You can not go by the meter that is on the radio,it,s probably not set right. hope this helps..

It transmits off frequency is there a adjustment and also the frequency counter goes crazy at times

To add 10Khz to your transmit frequency:

FIXED/OFF/+10KHz SWITCH:
The left position puts the radio on
one of the three fixed channels that is selected by the channel switch
(6,19, or 21). This over-rides the channel selected by the 40 channel
knob. The right position adds 10KHz to whatever frequency you are ON.
In the middle, both features are OFF.

Otherwise, a radio tech would be able to retune the frequency inside the radio.

After adding 10KHz to your frequency, use the SWR control to check the SWR of your antenna.
Here's how:
SWR CAL CONTROL: Normally this switch is set to “PO”. Then,
during transmission, the meter indicates output power. To read SWR,
rotate this knob during transmission until the needle moves to the “SET”
point on the SWR scale. Then, while still transmitting, set the R.B./SWR
switch to SWR.

Ideal SWR is 1 but you'll want to be as near one as possible. An SWR of 1.6 or greater will make ineffective use of your antenna.
If in doubt, a radio tech has the required meters and tools to adjust the SWR/Tuning of your antenna.
