Onkyo HDMI + 42 " LG TV = black screen but both work fine with other inputs/ outputs

I have a 42" LG TV and 5 mins after plugging tr-nx609 into HDMI, the screen goes black on TV and the LG freezes so i have to unplug it. This has only started recently but happens every time on both hdmi inputs. There are no problems with using other inputs directly (ps3, cable) and when i plug the Onkyo receiver into my Toshiba 32" TV, ot problems there either. Any ideas, I have not found this on any forums. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks. Ross

If using a box disconnect it and the set from power for a few minutes and try again.

Next I would remove connections one at a time with set off and try to see if one is creating this issue. HDMI does not like to be connected when a unit is on or power connected to it.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried different connection confiurations with everything unplugged a couple of times and no luck. Everything plays fine to start with, no issue changing from one source to another, so I don't think it is the initial connecting. It can be from a minute after start up to 10+ that it happens. But happens every time when Onkyp connected and Never when using any other HDMI source. Also Never when using Onkyo with other TV

Make sure you have the PS3 set to the correct frequency for the TV. Many cannot accept 1080p / 24fps etc.

Try different settings.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Sharp Aquos LC-32B20E wont display a PS3 output via HDMI

kitconnolly,

I too went through this problem.

Step 1 - Plug in your "composite" cables and the HDMI cable to the PS3. Obviously, the "composite" cable are the ones that came with the system. You need to start with them as the default connector.

Step 2 - After connecting the "composite" cable and the HDMI cable to the PS3, connect the other ends to your TV.

Step 3 - Power on your PS3

Step 4 - Select display settings-->video output settings

Step 5 - Change from the current video cables to HDMI. (Your tv has different inputs. When you switch to HDMI in the PS3, you will have to switch your TV to the HDMI input that it is connected to, to get a picture)

Step 6 - Be quick, the PS3 will display a "test" for 30 seconds. You need to switch your tv to the correct HDMI input and press "X" on your controller to accept the change.

Let me know how this works for you.

Ps3 doesnt give out a surround sound output

Hi
In this configration you will not get surround sound. Because tv is not able to reproduse the surround sound through its out put from the HDMI input. You have to connect the HDMI of PS3 to the Onkyo receiver and the HDMI Monitor Out of the Onkyo to the TV. This can only done if the Onkyo AVR Have HDMI IN/OUT option.

If not the connect the Optical out of PS3 to any one of the optical input of the Onkyo receiver.
After that you have to goto the setup Menu the Onkyo and assing the optical input in wich you have conncted the PS3.

Aslo the following setting in PS3

Menu>>> Settings >>> Sound Settings >>> Audio Output Settings >>> Select the connector..= DIGITAL OUTPUT (OPTICAL)

The HDMI is not outputting to my display. I have 3 inputs and none of them work. However they did work for about 2 weeks with no problem. I can take the input directly to the display and they work...

Measure all hdmi inputs and output HPD Voltage by a needle probe.
Steps:
(1)unplug the amp.
(2)open the cover.
(3)connect a blu ray player to hdmi input & a mon to output, otherwise no 5V.
(4)negative probe connected to the large heat sink with large power transistors mounted by a crocodile clip.
(5)postive probe to right hand side last pin called hot plug detect, HPD.
(6)If it has 5V, hdmi board is OK. Check HDMI cables(7)If no 5V, check power to this board. Go to you tube:How to fix an Onkyo receiver - TX-SR606 . All large capacitors next to SMPS IC are replaced.
(8) If not OK, replace Q 8595-Q8597.
(9)If not OK, replace Q8501,sil9135.(Onkyo won't help you to replace this HDMI decoding Chip. A HDMI board replacement instead, the company policy.)

Cable TV blinks on and off when connected to my Onkyo receiver.

I have the same problem.  It only occurs with my HD DVR (HDMI cable), not my blue ray (HDMI cable), or my xbox and wii (component video).  Video and audio cutout is random and drives the family nuts.  I am desperate for a solution.

42" Sanyo HDTV with 3 HDMI Inputs

Everybody is having problems with sony products and HDMI cables. It's on a lot of forums. So, your not alone.
Most of the solutions are:
1. Unplug your TV for 30 mins.
2. Plug TV back in and put it on HDMI for PS3.
3. Hold down the power button for 10secs on the PS3
That should solve the problem.
