Motor hums when turned on. Keys do not strike the page and carriage will not move after key strikes, space bar or back space. Is there a locking mechanism? Neither the plate on the back nor anywhere on the shell does it mention anything about Smith Corona. On the shell, it says Sears the electric w/ correction

there is a KB ON/KB OFF switch on the right side of the keyboard, it should be in the ON position
also on the left side the switch should be in the TYPE position
if that doesn't make it work, there is a problem with the main board or power supply that will need a visit to a repair shop

There is an adjustment for the power space bar..looks like it is pulling the escapement out too far. Not something for a novice to try..It may also have a bind in it.If so just try to wiggle it to remove the bind.

Take off the bottom pan (2 screws). In the upper area, with machine on its back, you'll see levers that trip cams for each character (springs attached to all of them). Carefully spray a light lubricant over the area and work all the keys till they free up. You should be able to see the problem key if you power on while looking in that area.
