The Sony sets were well known for capacitor issues, the problem is on the power supply board where two or three capacitors will need to be changed, I recommend a tv technician for the job.

Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider

I have the same problem. When using the remote, it makes the clicking sounds like it turns on, then immediately makes the clicking sound of turning off. The LED blinks repeatedly 6 times over and over.
I *did* get it to come back on by holding the power button down for about 5 seconds. Now I'm afraid to turn it off again! :(
