I have the solution. Download the XP driver from the Australia canon web page. Extract the file with rar or winzip and install the driver from the device manager. Choose the option where you can designate the folder where you extracted the files to and your up and running!! It works just fine!! [email protected]

I also used the Australian XP driver on VISTA, it works fine. The only thing is that youhave to use the " Browse feture to find the driver on your hard disk. The Toolboxfrom the same souorce works fine too. Install after the driver.

Just go to this link:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=8007 it should say that there is no driver for the Windows Vista, it was only made for Windows 98, XP, ME, 2000 and for a couple of Mac OS computers

The driver installed fine for the device, but unfortunately even though Vista says it's functional, non of my apps can acquire the scanner.

OH yes Vista- There are issues with Vista like no one is making driver drivers - Peripheral makers reckon its Microsoft's Job and MS reckon the other way Try the Standard XP setup that came with your scanner then try to roll back But I suspect your are out of luck Canon website technical Support team may have an idea or two. That is E-mail them

Just download the file for the N1220U from the following site. I tested it myself and it does work for Vista.

SOURCE: CanoScan N1220U - Vista Driver

You are right . The Vista drivers are not available, however the australian download for an XP driver works for some people. I would advise you to go to this site
http://www.canon.com.au/products/scanners/scanners_low_medium_volume/canoscanN1220U_drivers.aspx

And do a clean download of the driver for XP and follow all instructions.

How to do a clean download?
Uninstall the current software
Turn off the machine and unplug it
Turn off all your running programs including your virus control
(look in the lower right corner and click on each little icon there and turn off everything you can)
Now download the driver and SAVE it to your desktop
Click on it to install and follow the directions carefully. When it is finished, if it has not told you to reconnect your printer, do so now.
Restart your computer.

Good Luck. Please let me know if this works and rate my solution. Thank You.

CanoScan N1220U Scanner Windows 7 64-bit Driver

You may use Hamrick VueScan Pro, it installs a driver that makes 1220 to work. Or, if the version of Windows 7 you use support XP Mode, install it.

It's still a good scanner, and mine is working in 7 x64 using XP Mode!

Need software to install Canon Scanner N1220U with Windows Vista.

In the majority of cases where a Vista driver is not available on the website - the Windows XP Driver/software should work - you may need to tell it to run in compatibility mode though.

As long as you're not running Windows Vista, you can download drivers here. (Be sure and download the ScanGear Toolbox also.) There are no drivers available for Windows Vista for this model.
