Zing Ear on Hunter 4 speed fan switch has failed. Switch number ZE-268s5. Hunter is no help. They show just the entire switches/capacitor/candelabra/switch housing assembly. If I can purchase it, I suspect it will be expensive. Home centers only carry 3 speed switches. This one has five wires L, 1,2,3,4. Any suggestions on a work-around? Can I wire-nut one wire to convert it to a 3 speed, then use a 4 wire switch? Sorry for the duplicate postings. I'm a newbie and not used to the controls on this site.
Hello,
You can purchase this fan switch from the following link:

You should be able to assuming you have the correct switch. Don't use the 4 slot in switch.

Did you try Home Depot, Lowes, or any lighting supply store. It's a pretty common item, so they should all stock it

The reverse switch on my Hampton Bay ceiling fan didn't work. I cut the 6 wires; 1 white, 1 gray, 2 pink, 2 yellow. Here's what I did. Removed reverse switch. Had 6 wires white, gray, 2 yellow, 2 pink. Connected gray to yellow, connected white to pink and fan runs fine. Is this OK? I do not need to reverse fan. It's been running for 1 hour now with no problems. Don S.

Hi,
First, check to see that the fan blades turn
freely by hand and coast after being spun. If rotation is in any way stiff, this
is a sign of dirty, dry, or gummed bearings, which can slow the motor. Sometimes
the bearings can become tight and binding which can also be an issue.
Second, does the fan
wobble at all? If for any reason the blade pitch is steeper on one or more
blades than the motor is designed for, this will slow the motor. This can often
be the cause of warping, or a blade being knocked off balance. This will also
cause the fan to wobble or shake. See the section on balancing. You can bend the
blades to a shallower pitch if they appear to be too steep, but be extremely
careful as blade brackets can break easily.
Most ceiling fans made in
recent years use permanent split capacitor motors, as they are efficient and
reliable. However with age capacitors can drift in value. If the blades turn
freely and are balanced, the cause of a fan running slowly is almost always a
bad capacitor. The capacitor is a small black box or silver cannister with two
or more wires attached, and is located inside the switch housing, motor housing,
or inside a bell on top of the motor. It should be replaced with a capacitor of
equal value, they are marked i.e. 6uf, 4uf, etc. Some fans have capacitors with
two or more values, they should be replaced with the equivalent of those values
by one or more capacitors.

I don't know why my make and model keep getting changed / stripped off my post. This is a Hunter 28665-530 4 speed Ceiling Fan.
I have the same problem, a broken 5 wire 4 speed switch for a Hunter ceiling fan. It was bought at Lights Fantastic. I have been amazed with my luck getting parts from them vs. Lowes or Home Depot. That is where I will try tomorrow.
