The washer fills with water but won't agitate or drain. The timer makes a grinding sound & advances but the washer won't work. Tried re-setting all the controls, ie temp, load size, switch types of washing & advanced to rinse/spin cycles. Nothing. Is the timer or selector switch broken? I there a way to get it working withour replacing a part? Would consider a front loader to save water but don't want to put money in this machine. Thanks.

After having a repairman replace the belt this machine didn't always
agitate or spin like it used to. When I called & asked if he
could come back to tighten the belt, he told me that the problem is due
    to a computer card.

It was doing this intermittantly. If the tub was still too wet, I used
the rinse cycle again because the clothes didn't seem to clean.
If it wouldn't spin at the corect speed, I found if you raise the lid
& lower the lid quickly, the momentum of the spin would get the tub
spinning fast enough to get rid of enough water it didn't take 2 cycles
    to dry.

I finally ditched it for a Whirlpool Duet HT. No more Maytags...
the 7 yr old dishwasher got replaced a couple months ago too.

Same problem , lifting the lid would cause the machine to go into the proper spin  cycle  thus draining the water.  This machine is most annoying. - BR

My Maytag will continue to agitate but not drain or spin until I raise and lower the lid.  After I do this, the machine spins and drains well.

I have a Maytag Atlantis MAV6257AWW. I need to replace the transmission. So I removed all four screws from the inner tub but I couldnt get the inner tub pull out, it's stuck.

From what I read on here, the seal nut doesn't have to be remove in order to remove the inner tub.

I tried every, I even hammer the shaft down from the inside of the tub but still no luck. Can someone help, thanks.

Hello,

With the motor not coming on it sounds to me like the timer is going to be the problem and the contact in the timer for the motor to rotate in the agitate direction is burnt out. The part number for the timer is 206230 The timer could be ordered from your local appliance parts store or online at;

Washing machine won't agitate

it sounds like the transmission is shot. Not knowing the cost of parts if you can replace the transmission yourself then yes it could be worth fixing however if you can't do the job yourself adding cost of parts and labor it may not be worth it

Grinding niose from agitator.

If the fill and drain functions correctly, AND the spin cycle works correctly, AND the cycle itself starts and completes correctly, the problem being that the back and forth motion of the agitator starts the loud grinding noise, it will likley be broken gears in the transmission. The single most expensive part in the washing machine.
