I think this link will help you understand what is needed to fix your mixer.
You will need to purchase a gear. Here is link MarBeck should have it.
You may need to replace some grease. Make sure to use a non-toxic food grade grease.

You will have to have the transmission serviced. sounds like the gears were ground out. you can do the service work yourself its not to difficult.

Hi again Libby. You're right to be scared about further damage. If you want to fix this machine yourself, stop using the mixer. Go to the Kitchenaid website and download the drawings that match your mixer model Unplug the mixer! Take a screwdriver and remove the silver band from around the head of the unit ( 1 screw). Next remove the four screws that hold the top part of the mixer. Remove that cover, and look for a 'humpy" looking cover at the front of the machine. Examine this transmission cover carefully. If the cover is made of plastic, look for cracks. If you don't find cracks, you'be better off taking it to a repair shop. If you do find cracks in the plastic cover, remove the four screws that secure it. Remove the trans. cover.
You will now see a lot of grease in this exposed transmission. Put on some latex gloves, get a bunch of paper towels and move some of this grease aside so you can lift the worm gear assembly free of the mixer ( see Kitchenaid drawing). Wipe it off and look for damage to the worm (spiral) gear. Look for damage on the other gear of this assembly, inspect the 2 bronze bearings at either end of the shaft. You're looking for cracks in, or pieces missing from the bearings, look for damaged teeth on the gear. Should you find damage at any stage, that part must be replaced. These parts can be ordered from the Kitchenaid website, and will take about a month for them to arrive.
When you order the required parts, insist that the replacement trans. cover be made of metal. When my mixer "blew up", my replacement was a metal one. If your problem dosen't fit the above solution. I can't help you further. If it does, please rate my solution.
Depending how much grease you had to take out to do the inspection, you might have to order a container of grease to replace it. Good luck! ricardok45.

Most likely a capacitor in the power supply unit has failed or overheated.

Your circuit breaker (load protection button) was popping for a reason and that reason has evidently gotten much worse. Possible causes are a short circuit in the wiring of the motor or a heavy mechanical load on the motor such as a bad bearing. Here is the service manual for your mixer. It contains all the information you need to fix your problem.

Once you have isolated the problem here is the parts list so that you can search the internet by part number for the replacement part.
