Upgrade to new softwear version 11.1

Hi Karin, to best of my knowledge you cannot update a 3G much beyond iOS 4.2.1 or so. I think even the 4G does not allow newest iOS 8.1.2 - the 4S does.
Even if you mean Mac OS the newest version is 10.10 - 11.1 may be in beta, but not anything that would effect your 3G.

Good luck!

How to jailbeak iphone 4 3G 3Gs 4.2.1 with redsnow

NOTE: Those of you who rely on a carrier unlock MUST STAY AWAY from Redsn0w and iOS 4.2.1.
Follow the step by step instructions posted below to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 with Redsn0w 0.9.6b4:
Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for your version of iOS device.
Step 2: Update/Restore to iOS 4.2.1 using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.
Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 and point it to iOS 4.2.1 firmware to proceed with the jailbreak.

Step 4: Now select "Install Cydia" and click "Next". Optionally (if available), you can also select any other option you like.
redsn0w-0.9.6b4-1.pngredsn0w-0.9.6b4-2.pngStep 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click "Next".
screen-shot-2010-11-01-at-8.08.08-pm.pngAt this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold "Power" button and then while holding the "Power" button, you will now have to hold "Home" button too. Now after few seconds release "Power" button but keep holding "Home" button until installation begins.
redsn0w-0.9.6b4-5.pngStep 6: Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware.
For iPhone 4, 3GS (New Bootrom), iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G, iPad ONLY:
Step 7:
Now from here onwards, whenever you want to do anything related to jailbreak like SSHing into your device, or running Cydia, you must first run your device in the so called "jailbroken state" on every reboot by using "Just boot tethered right now" option in Redsn0w.

Download iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad, iPod touch
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 for Windows
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 for Mac
Download iTunes 10.1 for Windows or Mac

Cant my unlock iPhone pass code and im locked out

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
Before you restore your device
  1. Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Use iTunes to back up your device and transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
  3. Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.
Restore your iOS device
  1. Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
  2. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary pane, click the Restore button for your device.
  3. Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
  4. After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart, and you'll see the "Slide to set up" welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new or using a previous backup. If your iOS device has cellular service, it will activate after you restore.

Why cant I download ios 5 for iphone 3gs

The iPhone 3GS does support iOS 5 and even the latest iOS 6. However iOS 5 is no longer available for it by Apple's choosing, but the good news is that iOS 6 works well on the 3GS as tested

My iphone 3gs not turning on just showing the apple logo

Did you do anything to it beforehand? Maybe if you wait long enough it will come back. If not, just plug it into your computer and do a restore to the newest iOS and pray that you backed it up.
