It switches itself from hot to cool water. warm setting is cool. when i switched the hoses, the hot water came out just fine but cold water just trickled out, is this a blockage in the line somewhere or a bad valave or does this sound like a solinoid problem? drum fill completely just takes forever because hot barely comes out.
If you switched the feed hoses over and the problem reversed itself, cold has gone from fast to slow useing the hot water pipe and hot from slow to fast useing the cold water pipe then this would indicate a fault in the water supply from the hot pipe. What sort of pressure is coming from the hot pipe when not connected to the machine but filling in to a bucket? Are there any shut off valves before the pipe that supplies the hot water? Are they fully turned on? Any kinks in the feed pipe for the hot water? Has the hot water feed pipe collapsed internally? Change the pipe to check this and not just at the machine side.
I checked everyting leading up to the washer, unscrewed the hot water line and turned it on into a bucket, it goes full blast no problem, same as the cold, i checked for debris at both ends of line there are no kinks in hose. I switched the lines as you suggested and when switched the hot came out full blast (when it was set to cold of course) and the cold came out slow (when set to hot)it must be something with the hot valve inside the washer.I will check that. its a stacked unit though and I dont see how to access the inside of this thing, ginna be an adventure I think.

SOURCE: GE Top loading normal (not HE) washer. Will not
Shut off the water and remove the hoses, check the inlet screens. Look at the repair pictures HERE

SOURCE: No Cold Water
THE SOLENOID VAVLE IS DEFECTIVE,NEED TO REPLACE IT, ITS WERE THE HOT AND COLD HOSES CONNECT TO BEHIND THE WASHER WERE YOU CLEANED THE SCREEN. NEED TO TAKE IT OUT AND REPLACE. ITS A ONE PIECE IT SHOULD BE RED OR BLUE OR SUMTHIN LIKE THAT.
GET THE MODEL NO AND SERIAL NO AND SOURCE AROUND FOR A REPLACEMENT PART. ALWAYS GO WITH THE ORIGINAL PARTS SO IT WOULD LAST LONGER, THEN TO MODIFY AND COST YOU MORE MONEY, WHEN IT SHOULDNT.
SOURCE: water fill temp.
check to make sure that your hot water isn't connected to the cold side this is the number one cause for your problem all washers rinse in cold so if you switch to and its hot cold then your hose is on the wrong valve just switch the fill hoses see if that don't fix it
SOURCE: Cold water is slow when filling for rinse cycle
Turn off the cold water.
Remove the cold water hose from the machine.
Look inside the cold water inlet on the machine and clean the debris from the screen.
Problem solved.
SOURCE: Washer Fills HOT WATER ONLY
If you checked the screens at the water inlet valve and they were not clogged, then you probably have a defective water inlet valve and will have to replace it. Hope this helped.
