I've got a Technics SU-X840 integrated power amplifier that I got off a friend. They said they hadn't used it for a while and when we powered it up there was a blast of very loud music (from the radio getting a signal), and then the amp shut down. After that I can't power up the amp at all, although the other separates do still draw power through the unit. What should I be looking for? Many thanks.
It sound like the main power amp has failed. Look at whatever is on the big heatsink as to the cause. As with any device from "friends" it could be that someone has tried to fix a fault and made a mess. So look carefully at the soldering to any of it's parts.
I have the same problem, found a line of dry joint on all three of the transistors to the left of the large black PA module. I think i can re-solder the 6 joint through the back cover with a slim iron.I have the same problem, found a line of dry joint on all three of the transistors to the left of the large black PA module. I assume you want to use the SU-G91 as a power amplifier to drive your speakers. If your receiver has connections for inserting an equalizer (may be labeled pre-amp output and power amp input), remove the jumpers between the pre-amp and the power amp, then run cables from the pre-amp to the SU-G91 inputs. You can have an equalizer between the receiver and the integrated amplifier. If this is not available, use the recording output (for a tape recorder on older receivers). Note that the volume control on the receiver will be bypassed with this connection.
Being a 500W amplifier, you need to connect speakers with 300W each. The correct method to connect speakers is red terminal of speaker should be connected to red terminal of amplifier & black to black. The left side to left side speaker & right to right speaker. There may be main & remote terminals. Main speakers are the speakers at local place of the amplifier & remote for remotely placed speakers. I do have Technics SU-V85A which is somewhat similar. Enjoy! A nice piece to listen.
test you speaker maybe there is a bad connection some where is the spk. box its self ,try changing speakers left to right . it the spk. are ok open amp see all the connections within the amp . if this dose not work contact me by mail: [email protected]
I have a technics too, and faced the same problem. The solution is very simple just ensure the +ve and -ve wires are connected correctly for each speaker to the amp. Eg. red wire to the red knob and black wire to the black on both ends. sometimes this arises because the wires are of just one color however there will be some marking on the wire to indicate which is +ve and -ve. This took care of the overload problem.
connect your media source(dvd-cd player)to equalizer in-connect equalizer out to amplifier line in-or aux in-connect amplifier out to your loudspeaker.
