SOURCE: Hi, my reader is saying

Sorry to hear your are having issues with your Cruz Reader. I have a Cruz Reader R101. Unfortunately you have to update via the SD card for the Cruz Reader. It doesn't do a firmware update from the USB cable.
If you don't want to try and update it now you could also try to just restart it. If you can't get it to restart normally you can remove the back cover and unplug the battery, then plug it back in.

PROBLEM WITH TABLET CRUZ READER R101

To update the firmware you can follow the directions here http://www.ehow.com/how_7890482_update-cruz-reader-firmware.html

I used a similar method when I had my Cruz Reader R101. This process is called "side-loading"
You will have to download a file to your computer (not your tablet), remove the SD media card from your cruz, then transfer the downloaded file from your computer to it, then replace the SD card to your cruz.

Also you can download the user manual here http://www.retrevo.com/support/Velocity-R101-Tablets-manual/id/23894dj696/t/2/ which shows how to remove the card, and this is a great reference to keep on your reader. For example, page 14 shows how to transfer files to and from your reader. Good luck!

Android tablet keeps getting error when trying to connect to the net. process com.andriod.browser has stopped unexpectedly.

Personally I'd flash it. I think you've got something corrupted in your system and its being triggered when you attempt to access the browser. Alternatively you can try downloading a different browser (http://www.4shared.com/android/ki088UbS/Dolphin_Browser_v200.htm) click download now wait the 20 seconds and an apk will show up for you to install. You will have to set your reader to accept outside downloads its in settings. Yea other than that do a full flash. Go to the support section of the cruz website and you'll be following the process for upgrading the firmware.
good luck

I cant remember my cruz pattern to sign into the whole system. what can i do?

There isn't anyway to bypass the security pattern on an android device. So basically the only option you would have is to do a factory restore and start from the beginning. You can also use this opportunity to update to the newest firmware if you haven't done so.

The update can be downloaded from here. After downloading copy it to the root (not in a folder) of an SD card ensuring that the file is named 'PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP.ZIP'.

Insert your SD card into the external SD slot on the device. With the device off, press and hold the volume up button. While continuing to hold the volume up button, press and hold the power button. Continue holding both buttons. The 'Cruz' screen will come up and then an android screen with a status meter will come up. Now release both buttons and let the update apply. When it's done the device will reboot and should start normally.

This does clear the internal memory of the device, so you will lose all the programs that you've installed. Any data on the internal SD card and external SD card will not be touched.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

My ereader is frozen on the "Cruz" screen when I turn it on.

Sorry to hear your having problems with with your Cruz Reader. The simplest way to fix this is to upgrade your firmware. The update can be downloaded from here. After downloading copy it to the root (not in a folder) of an SD card ensuring that the file is named 'PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP.ZIP'.

Now remove the back of the reader. This can be done by prying with your fingernails around the edge. If you've never removed the back before it can be a little difficult because there's some adhesive holding the back on as well as the clips around the edge.

Now unplug the battery. It's the small white plug in the lower left hand corner next to the battery (large gray thing taking up most of the device). Leave it unplugged for five seconds before plugging it back in. Replace back cover and now you're ready to flash the new firmware.

This should fix the problem that you're having. Let me know if you have any questions or any other problems.

How do you restor you cruz r101 to factory default

The easiest way to restore the Cruz Reader to factory defaults is to update to the newest firmware which can be downloaded from here. The instructions for doing the upgrade are also explained on the link above.

This will revert everything back to original condition leaving any information on the internal and external memory cards intact. If you are looking to clear those as well you can do so by formatting the cards by going to Settings->Storage (might say SD card)->Unmount->Format. You can also take the cards out and put them in your computer and use the computer to format them.

The process is pretty of upgrading the firmware is pretty simple even though it might be intimidating. Let me know if you have any more questions

Hope this helps

Can't remember password pattern. The suggestion didn't work.

Normally, with Android devices, if you enter the wrong pattern five times in a row, the device will give you an option to enter your Google account information (e-mail address and password). Once you have done this, it will let you reset your security pattern.
If this doesn't work, the next best thing to try would be a firmware update. The firmware update process will wipe the root of the device (but leave your SD card and books intact), basically resetting it to factory settings, before you even set a security pattern.
Should this fail to work, contact Velocity Micro Support by calling 1-800-296-4312 or visiting their Support website.

I bought a Velocity Cruz R103 for Christmas . I charged it all night and went to read a book and it died.

There is an update to the firmware for this device available on Velocity's www.cruzreader.com website. Perhaps that would help. Otherwise, I would advise a return for exchange at the place of purchase, while you can. This behavior is not expected, and you may have a faulty device. For the technically-minded, there is plenty of information available on Slatedroid, and this device can be "rooted" for use as a general-purpose Android tablet. Pretty slick.
