Hi. I have an old Asus P5PE-VM motherboard which won't switch on

The power supply is brand new so that can't be the problem. (The processor, harddrive, and ram are also okay, that much I know). The power switch itself works because I tested it on another computer and there was no problem at all. When I connect the power cable to the pc, the light on the motherboard goes on, so there is power running somewhere, but the switch doesn't trigger the process which makes everything start up... I am a total newbie when it comes to hardware modifications etc so I am clueless here. PLEASE help!!

SOURCE: Asus motherboard M2N-E will not power up

It could be a memory card too. I would start by pulling the memory cards and see what happens.

Is there a connection on the motherboard for your hard drive?

SOURCE: ASUS Asus P5QC Motherboard

Hello edwardfuller:

Do the same as you did, only this time remove all plug in boards and if there is anything connected to the mother board such as extra fans, speakers, and so on, remove all.
The board will detect any shorts, or overloads or problems in cards and so on , and will not turn on.

If it still will not work, check your memory sticks.
Remove all memory and place one at a time in the first slot, and then proceed to turn on and test.
By elimination, you can find the problem.
If all fails, then something may be wrong with the mother board.
take care, hope this will help,

Hi! Good Day, your ASUS motherboard don't have problem it's just that you have to make your CMOS jumper back to the original settings, it's near in the battery terminal. You will see a label on the board saying Close and ClearCMOS, put the jumper in close position then turn on your computer, thats it Good luck

What mobo can replace ASUS P5PE-VM

the socket of you processor is lga775, the graphics port is agp and it support DDR I , so you need to buy a motherboard that has the exact specifications.
my advice is to continue with asus. you could buy an Asus P5P800/ P5S800 that is compatible with your previous motherboard. there are also some good models from asrock and they may be cheaper than asus.
the problem with this type of motherboard is that they are expensive because that are not in use.
