I just finished recharging. Light didn't turn green after 12 hours so I disconnected. It showed almost fully charged so I went on to the last page of the book I was reading. When I tried to turn the page it wouldn't move. It is seven hours later and it is still on. I cannot turn it off.

Make sure that the kindle is fully charged. Plug your kindle into the wall charger, a yellow light will light up. When the yellow light turns green, your kindle is fully charged. Then try turning on your device. If the device still does not turn on, hold the power switch for 15 seconds, this will reboot the device.

Is your kindle in an unlighted cover? Amazon Kindle support suggested to me that this exact problem may be caused by interference with the metal clips that hold the kindle cover on.
After taking it out of the cover, it works just fine!
This does not happen with the lighted cover apparently.
They also suggested NOT turning it off when finished reading. Hit the home key and walk away. After about 10 minutes, it will power down to sleep mode on its own.
Hopevthis helps.
