Washer will not run Kenmore 90 Series 2872 Top Load

My washer completely stopped running while in the pause setting. It never started backup. Now it doesn't run no matter where you place the setting. After removing the cover, I checked all connections which appeared to be fine the coupler also was checked and was fine. There is a small amount of fine graphite looking dust on top of the gearcase possibly coming from the clutch assembly. Where do I go from here? Is there any way to check the timer or lid switch? Looking foward to a reply!

Do you hear a distinctive "click" when you close the lid? If you don't, the lid switch is probably bad. You can by-pass the switch by lifting the console and unplugging the switch connector. If you jumper across the black and white wires in the connector plug, this could prove whether or not the switch is defective. If you jumper the switch, or if the lid switch proves good, and you still have no activity from the drive motor, I would check the start capacitor, and/or connections to the motor before I would suspect a timer problem (still a possibility, though). You should also check your line voltage coming in just to make sure you're getting power to the unit (not trying to insult your intelligence). There should be a wiring diagram located under the console to aid in troubleshooting. When taking readings on 120 VAC connect one lead to your neutral and take readings with the other lead. This way you have one hand free, and the readings will be more accurate. Ground is not always reliable. Let me know what you find and if I can be of more assistance.

One more thing...you can take a voltage reading across the timer switch to determine if the switch is getting the proper voltage. You should read 120 VAC across the switch when it is open, and 0 VAC when it is closed. You will have to refer to your wiring diagram to determine which wire to check. It will be L1 to the opposite side of the switch. If there is no change in voltage when changing the switch from off to on, then you have a bad timer.

Kenmore Series 90 top load washer goes through wash cycle, however then stops. It does not drain and will not complete cycles. Any help would be appreciated.

My washer did the same thing and it was the safety switch that determines if the washer lid is closed or not. If you replace the safety switch it will spin and drain again. :)

Where can I buy parts for my kenmore 90 series, specifically the piece on top that tells the washer to run when the top is shut. I have a Kenmore 90 Series 22992 100.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts, part numbers and Sears prices.

If your complete model number is
110.22992100See the following:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.22992100&pathTaken=partSearch

I assume that you're talking about the Lid Switch.

Most local appliance parts should have the switch since it is one of the most likely parts to be replaced.

On the Sears site, you may see a comment in effect "manufacturers authorized substitute". If the first three digits of the complete model number are 110, the washer was made by Whirlpool and those are Whirlpool numbers. Again, usually available at appliance parts stores.

Washer water wont stop running and switch to wash. It overflowed

sounds like a bad water valve. Try disconnecting for a few minutes. If problem continues, the solenoid on the water valve is staying open which means the circuit is not opening. Replace valve.

Kenmore series 90 washer spins but the clothes are still very wet

you probably need a new clutch (Whirlpool Washer Clutch Kit 285785 fits kenmore too) , or your gear case is shot.

KENMORE ELITE TOP LOAD

Washer stops, won't fill, rinse or agitate

• Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Is the indicator on the Cycle Control knob properly lined up
with a cycle? Turn the Cycle Control knob to the right slightly
and pull to start.
Are the water inlet valve screens clogged?
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not fill completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
• Has a fuse blown or is the circuit breaker open? If problem
continues, call an electrician.
• Are you using an extension cord? Do not use an extension
cord.
• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle? The washer
pauses for about 2 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the
cycle to continue. Some cycles feature periods of agitation
and soak.
• Is the washer overloaded? Wash smaller loads.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.
