Just to add to CoachTim's excellent solution, i find that removing the printer from the usb port as well as turning it off helps. But make sure you uninstall printer completely from add/remove programmes and check in the folder after that there is no canon printer listed. download this UK driver http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0024838.asp?model= Restart your pc before re installing and re connecting printer.

HI,
right click on my computer -> select manage -> one should be
services and something (or something like that) open that and go to
services -> find the printer spool service and right click on it
-> click on properties -> in the printer spool service properites
click the "Start" button and also under a drop down menu change it from
"Disabled" to "Automatic".... This is what you did right ?
Log in to Administrator account and try it there. If that doesn't work then install a fresh copy of Windows Xp. It should work now. Thank you.

Hi, the spooler service is usually set to start automatically when the PC starts up. It sounds as if this may have been changed.
To check this right click on "My Computer" & select "Manage" (4th one down), at the bottom of the list you will see "Services & Applications" - if you click on the + next to it you will see some more options, 1 of which is services.
Click on services & the right hand pain will list all services installed on your machine, it should be in alphabetical order so work down to the "P's" & find "Print Spooler", under startup type it should say automatic if it says anything like Manual or Disabled just double click it & on the window that appears change the setting to automatic using the dropdown box, click on start to start the service & you should be flying!
Let me know how you get on.
Hi,
According to your problem first check that you have installed the driver properly or reinstall the driver. Check the USB cable of the printer. Replace the cable. Turn the printer off before installing the driver. Turn it on again while the driver installation wizard will ask to connect the printer. After installation reboot the printer and system both.
