Sony CX995v "Cannot Play" message on DVDs but plays CDs O.K.

My Sony CX995v is about 3.5 years old. When attempting to play a DVD I get a flashing "Reading" message for about 5 seconds followed by a "Cannot Read" message. This only happens on DVDs and not on CDs.

Hi...
The laser goes thru a different lens arraignment for DVDs.
Take it to a TV shop and have them "blow out" the laser assembly with some CO2 and clean the lens.

In most cases, DVDs are equipped with protection the very moment they are released. Technically, like CDs, DVD copy protection refers to a general term for various methods of copy protection for DVDs.
Maybe this is due to the protection which stops you from playing the DVD. You can use some copy software tools to remove the protection first such as Leawo Blu-ray Copy.

Ematic portable DVD player won't play DVDs only CDs

Hi,

Please check whether the DVds that you're attempting to play are from a certain range of time (ie 10 years ago). If so, please attempt to play newer dvds. Or play older dvds if it's the opposite case. It might just be that the product itself is outdated if it's only playing dvds created a long while back.

Thank you.

The player is playing cds get error message that it can not play dvds

hello,
the problem of the layer is that the strength the lense needs to carry out work on a DVD is not enough, therefore the lense is weak, though it plays cds, cos the strength needed to play a cd is low.

the solution is for you to unscrew the player, detach carefully and disconect the old lense, and replace with a new lense. screw it back and make sure there is no tampering with any of the wires, then test it with a DVD cd.

PS2 wont play DVD movies!

Hi. It seems that you might have an old version of the PS2.

The original PS2's had a problem with the laser that read CDs and DVDs, often failing, creating problems with reading DVDs and in rare cases, CDs.

Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit filed against Sony is too old to get yours fixed for free, but there are ways to attempt to fix the laser yourself, if you would rather not send it in to Sony.

My Sony DVD/VCR combo will play cds but not dvds. I took the top of the player off and I can see that the dvd spins but it won't play. It used to play everything very well but just stopped working...

Please clean laser lens with good quality cotton bud gently and check dvd disc playback, if still does not play, replace optical lens block.
Let me know model number of your Sony DVD-VCR combo to provide you optical laser block part number info.
Thanks.

Suddenly "cannot play this disk" on Sony DVD/CD..every DVD...CD's work!

I have the same problem. I have a 5 year warranty from the company I purchased the unit from. I am not sure if they will replace it or not. I am reluctant to buy another one with this known issue. We have enjoyed the unit for nearly 3 years with no issues.
