I have a Kenmore series 70 washing machine and it recently has a musty smell coming from inside. The inside of the machine is completely dry and it appears to be working properly. I did howerver, open the lid and shake the drum around and could here water plashing around, but could not see anything. i then put the machine on spin cycle, let it run a few seconds and opened the door. when i did this i could hear water swishing around. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The water will always be in there. It is in between the basket and the drum. That is normal. However if you want to get rid of the musty smell there is a good tip that I have. You can find this on my profile too. Just take about a cup of white vinegar and put it in the drum and wash on hot heavy load. This will clean the tub and all hoses as well. You can do this every few months or even every month if you do a lot of laundry. Put some vinegar into the bleach dispenser too and the fabric softener area as well. This way you will clean everything. It is much cheaper then going out and buying that expensive cleaner made for washing machines. Let me know if you have any other questions and if this was helpful. Good luck and have a great weekend.

I did what you said, but still have the smell. it is really weird because everything was fine until about a week ago and i have had this machine since 1997 when I bought it brand new. Thanks for trying, though. Maybe I have a much more series problem.
any other suggestions on this problem or thoughts on whats causing it ...
