Loud noises from TV for last couple of months. When it first was turned on it was really loud but as it warmed up the noise stopped. They a month ago the buzzing noise continued the whole time the TV was on. When turning TV off the noise would take 10 seconds to stop.
Is this the Color Wheel or Lamp? If the color wheel goes out does it tell the TV not to turn on at all?
Assuming the noise is a high-pitched whine, then yes, it is the color wheel. If the color wheel goes out, the TV will turn on for a while, then turn off when it can't establish color wheel sync. The color wheel has to be in sync with the mirrors on the DLP, so if sync can't be established, the TV turns off.
You can order a new color wheel from Sears or partstore.com (among other places) and replace it yourself, if you are so inclined.
I dont know of any online sites. Ā I found a large PDF years ago online and subsequently purchased the service manual since I own a 61" and a 50". Ā Here are the two relevent pages from the Service Manual.

Thank you. I actually just ordered a replacement color wheel on Thursday, thinking it would be going out. I was just concerned because the tv doesn't turned on at all and now I was thinking maybe the light.
I have another question, is there any website that you would recommend to show how to change it?
I will post again as soon as we have a successful replacement to let others know that it worked.
I found a Youtube video on steps to change your color wheel.

We did it step by step and when it came time to switch the color wheel, we had the wrong one. It seems that the model TV we have has 2 different ones and we knew this but after spending 2 hours calling tech support to samsung parts, we were told that the lamp and model code of our tv would be Bp-96-01073A (P). This then led us to part number for color wheel BP96-00674A. There are 2 versions of the color wheel that fits our TV model according to this site. http://www.dlplampxpress.com/Samsung_BP9...
Here it shows the 2 types and as you can see the B type is not available. After further searching we found that it is no longer available.
So after the frustration of dealing with it, we just went out and bought a new TV. I wanted to share this with anyone who has the same model code so that they don't hit the road block that we did.
Thanks again for all your help.
