Hi,
some other cameras like canon a710, a650... can be upgraded with new firmware allowing some extra features. is there over such a possibility for fx8? or some hidden features not published in the manual?
Only the Panasonic web site will tell you.
IMHO firmware upgrade tend to be available only for H- grade cameras, and these themselves can be troublesome and have been known to be with drawn.

There was an issue with some of the A650 IS cameras that bright light or sunshine could sometimes enter the case and create such symptoms as you're describing:
Although your camera is not an A650, recommend contacting Canon, especially if your camera is less than a year old, to have it repaired under warranty service. Even if older, recommend contacting Canon anyways to argue free repair if your symptoms match that of the above link. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.
hi,
i've an fx8. i had a problem 2 weeks ago. my objective didn't want to close when i switched the camera off. it remained open. when i switched the camera on again, the objetcive has closed and opened again, and the _Turn Off the Camera and Turn On again_ message appeared on the sisplay. and remained in open position after switching it off.
i tried some button combination, like menu button on, and power the camera on. it didn't work, but the second was the shotting button on, power on combination. an it worked, my camera did some kind of reset. it returned to the original position, and everithing is working since then.
The Fx's have a common problem of internally cracking(even when you don't actually sit on them ;] ) which pana still won't recognize, so I've seen a few posts that sum up the following - nothing qouted less 200 $ by panasonic(repair), and the FX9 NEW today sells for 199$.
You could try and get a used FX8 from ebay thats all dead but the screen, but better check around first to see if you can find anyone to do the replacement for you. A talented all around computer tech, especially one thats good with laptops might get lucky with it.
It is a nice camera, I hope you work it out.
The Panasonic FX8 doesn't recognize a 8GB SDLC CLASS6 memory card.
Why? May be it only supports FAT16 and not FAT32?
Can be solved?
Thanks !
