Machine works great, but the wife informs me it no longer dispenses Fabric Softener. Manually checked soleniod valve, jumped it with 110 and all solenoids work fine. Tech says only thing left is control board at $335+. No error codes
Same problem with a maytag mah8700aww. Mine has three cold water valves in a single assembly. none of them dedicated to fabric softener. #1 for cold fill, #2 for bleach dispense, #3 for pre-wash dispense. The manual says #1 & #2 work at the same time to dispense fabric softener. All valves work, solenoids draw about 0.035 amps when on, no clogged hoses. The Service Mode lets me toggle everything on on off and all works fine, but..... no water ever goes to the fabric softener dispenser! The water goes fine to the cold fill, and to the bleach fill, and to both when fabric softener is turned on, but the manifold above the dispenser does not send any of the water to the fabric softener.
No diagnostic codes. Service Cycle runs fine. fabric softener occasionally dispenses. BTW, the triple cold water valve has restrictors built in on the pre-wash and bleach outputs, free flow on the main cold water fill. House water pressure is about 80 psi.
Here is my question. How is the fabric softener suppose to be dispensed? The fabric softener dispenses via a siphon in the cup once extra water is added. The extra water is suppose to come from the turning on of the main cold and bleach valves simultaneously. They do toggle on correctly and together. The top of the dispenser unit has a manifold with four sets of holes, one set above each of the four dispenser cups - wash, pre-wash, bleach, fabric softener. I cannot ever get any water to come out of the fabric softener holes in that manifold. Everything is working individually, but not as a system. Is the manifold above the dispensers suppose to have a valve or some way to channel water to to the fabric softener when the two inputs are flowing? Does the machine have to be actually loaded and running and vibrating to shake some of the water over to the fabric softener dispenser holes? (this is my hypothesis on why it sometimes works.) The manifold has four inlets for hot, cold, bleach, pre-wash. All plastic, no wires, no sign of any valves or way to direct water to the fabric softener holes. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?
Out of curiosity, how is the pre-wash suppose to work? It looks to me as if all detergent placed into both the pre-wash and main detergent drain by gravity into the wash basket as soon as the drawer is closed. The main fill will rinse all remaining main detergent into the tub on the pre-wash fill. Whenever the pre-wash valve is activated(I'm guessing this is at the start of the main wash, after the pre-wash,) it will just rinse the remaining film of detergent in the pre-wash dispenser into the wash tub. Can someone tell me how this is really suppose to work. It would make more sense to me if the back of the pre-wash cup had back to retain the detergent. Is the push down divider for liquid in the main detergent compartment suppose to create a seal to keep the liquid in there? It certainly doesn't.
Last question, does anyone have a timing schematic/diagram or a parts diagram for this machine.
Not sure if you've ever resolved this issue, but I'm dealing with it myself. I have come across this service manual that gives a very detailed illustration of the systems, how it works and how to test it.
Focus on pages 15 thru 25. Hope this helps you.

I have posted this to another area as well.
The problem is in the unit that directs the water to the main, the bleach or the softner.
You need to remove the door first.. then the front panel... then the top of the washer. There is a good video on YouTube that shows you how to deal with this.
When the top is lifted you will see the unit that directs the water - covered with the white plastic cover. Remove the two screws and lift off the lid.
Two solenoids pull the lever that turns the wheel which then the lower part directs the water's path to one of the three chambers.
Calcium build up under the small wheel unit that directs the water.... after 14 years it was not smooth anymore. I removed the unit and applied some calcium remover (CLR) and it now works fine... still holding my breath - but working!!
Previous to this I also checked the water intake line. It was plugged at both ends - where the water came in to the hose the filter was clogged... then it was also 90% blocked at the entrance to the washer. Water heater was changed... and water lines and been worked on as well adding **** to the filters. Cleaning and changing the sieve allowed the water to run better. This blockage was perhaps a contributing factor as well... acting as if the water was not turned on... too slow to fill etc...
I hadn't checked that part in 14 years!

Fabric softener is a gummy substance in all washers. I has most likely blocked the way to the tub. try some scolding hot water in the dispenser. you can also take it out and wash it in the sink.

there is a small button on the inside edge where the door closes, it was broken off since there was nothing there I didnt see it.It was only a hole where the button was.So I had to get a new button and replace it.

The bottom of my gasket was torn open all along the bottom. I ordered the gasket but I wanted to see if I could repair it so we could catch up on the wash. I bought some rubber contact cement that cost me under $4.00. I Glued the gasket rubber together by overlapping the the seem a little. Still had a hole in one spot. I had a sheet of rubber around my shop that was about 1/16 of an inch thick and cut it about three inches wide.. I used a little sandpaper to rough it up a little. I cut it in two.
You have to apply contact cement to the gasket and the rubber you are applying it to. ( I dry fit it first to make sure it would fit). Just to make sure it would hold I also glued rubber to the outside bottom of the gasket to reinforce the glued seam. . You need to take off the front panel to do this and there are directions to do this if you search for it. I was able to run the washer in about an hour after the repair.
If your washer is in the basement and are not afraid of getting the floor wet give it a try. I have run the machine with heavy loads for two days and no leaks. I feel confident that the repair will last for a long time. A cheap fast fix. It took me about forty five minutes. Make sure you unplug the machine to do this. Good luck.

Maytag Appliances are ****!! Don't buy Maytag. Spent $2500.00 in 2005 on Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. They have been nothing but trouble. Washer has water running in tub constantly. Recall on ground and recall on footing. Dryer making loud noise when drying clothes.The Maytag man is dead and gone.

The "nf" code is a "no-fill" fault. This indicates that your washing is not getting water supplied to it, or the pressure isn't substantial enough to complete a fill. You need to, first, make sure the water supply is turned on. Second, if the water IS turned on, and you're still not getting anything to your washer, you may have a fill valve problem. The fill valve is what both your hoses connect to on the back of the machine. It can become clogged with sediment over time (especially, if you have hard water or well water). Turn the water supply off and remove both hoses from the back of the washer. Check both these hose connections for clogs in the filter screens. If they are clear, then more than likely the fill valve has gone bad. I hope this helps you.
Hello - There are several things that could cause the fabric softener to not dispense into the washer. Are you sure the liquid in the dispenser after the wash is fabric softener? If it is fabric softener, the solenoid that lets the water into the dispenser is not working. This solenoid is located on the back of the dispenser. It only gets voltage during the dispense time and fills the fabric softener dispenser with water. The fabric softener dispenser fills while the washer is filling for the rinse cycle.
When the washer begins to fill for the rinse cycle, the fabric softener solenoid is energized and water flows into the fabric softener dispenser cup. When the cup is full the water siphons out and softener and water flow into the tub.
If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is pure softener you may need a technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The voltage will have to be tested to the softener solenoid and a volt meter is required.
If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is water you probably need to clean the dispenser cup. **** will build up in the siphon tube and stop the liquid from going into the washer tub. The incoming water will dilute the softener and overflow the dispenser cup and run into the tub. The instructions for cleaning the dispenser should be located on page 43 of the use and care guide that came with the washer.
If you don't have the use and care guide these instructions will help. Open the dispenser until it stops. In the left rear corner of the dispenser, there is a release that is labeled push. Press down on the push area and you can slide the dispenser drawer out.
Remove the insert from the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Clean the bottom of the insert and the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Reinstall the insert and put the drawer back inside the washer.
To test the siphon action slowly pour water into the fabric softener compartment. When the water level goes above the maximum line stop pouring. The water should all drain out.
